Theres a dealer on gunbroker selling them for $435; he's sold 6 in the last 24hrs.  I bought the first one listed. They have 30 or so, from some dept in New Jersey, he wasn't sure which. Tritium still lit too.

Must be a different batch because I just spoke with Mac about these.  No markings and no mag disconnect.  I just checked GB and there are no 228's listed with them any longer.  I am happy!  Now it's like Christmas to see what I get.

Yep, that is what he told me this morning and doesn't know where that came from.

Apparently he got asked that question a lot today.

Not sure how many PDs use or have used P228s but a bunch have and do use P226s.

Several fed agencies but don't know of many local or state that issued them. If there are trades speak up

Oh yeah, the M11 with the military and NCIS and others use them.

I meant local PDs and I have never seen a city, county, authority, or state LEO with one as a duty weapon.

That WOULD be cool as shit to have for patrol duty.

More then a few local departments issued 228s but this was years ago. Most agencies that issued them either got rid of them or traded them in for newer 229s a while ago. If a department still has some they are probably very well used by now unless they just found a few that got lost some where.

I don't know about well used.  No offense to LEOs, but how much shooting do the vast majority of officers do?

It all depends on the person and department on how much they get used. Most shoot at least a 100 rounds a year. There are some that shoot a whole lot more. If these are from where other posters have claimed then I would say most had about 50 rounds or so a year. How long ago did SIG stop making P228s ? I would say these would even be a few years older then that. Has anybody received one yet?

Not yet, but the dealer from the original post said these were not from NJ BOE, had no mag disconnect, and were not marked.

I talked to him personally as did several others.

Mine shipped today, so we shall see what kind of shape they are in.

I don't expect a $435 P228 to be pristine, but I do expect it to be useable.

I don't believe that Sig has discontinued the P228. It's my understanding they still produce them in Germany but are not imported anymore

I was told this by a sig fanatic. I didn't read it in a reliable source, hence why I stated "my understanding". Should have said 'I heard", but haven't truly verified. If someone has concrete evidence I'd like to hear it though.

Just took delivery of mine.  Happy with it!  Shows some definite use and holster wear.  Has Germany slide.  Night sights are just about dead.  I had extra grips off my M11-A1 that I put on it after a good cleaning.  Wasn't too dirty to begin with.  Looks like the original blue box that has target in it, paperwork, and lock.  The labels on the box match the gun's serial number.  One of the mags is German and the other two are Mec-gar.  All are marked "restricted Law Enforcement."  Probably won't get to the range until next week.  Might send her to Sig for the once over for new springs and night sights.

Serial number puts it at 2002.  The target is scribed 6/2002. The inside of the grips are 6/02.

I wouldn't speculate on that.  Someone speculated that they are NJ DOE engraved with mag disconnects.

They ain't.

Looks pefect for that price point! My wife has a thing for the older pre forged slide sigs lately and shoots them better than anything, so for a shooter and maybe getting a slick cerakote job, it's ideal!

Kinda glad I walked on the "deal" the seller was willing to do for a poor guy behind enemy lines.

I picket up a W. German date code '91 years ago that looks more like your '13.  For around $500-600 in trades... Would not have been overly happy to get one like the ones posted in here for $475 after shipping and FFL fees(without any mags).

Depends on the dealer.  And how or whom they want to do business with... Choices on both sides of the coin and all.

"Years ago" I could get a P6 for under $300. Availability changes and so do prices. I've been tracking P228s awhile now and I've not seen better.

Here it is. This is one dirty damn gun. If this one was cleaned, ever, it was at the factory.

Some armorer somewhere ought to be fired.

Standard German P228; really in great condition outside of the filthiness; I doubt its been shot much. Night sights are dim but functional in darkness. Came with target, tag, manual and three SIG SAUER mags.

Got mine on Thursday.  Not nearly as bad as some apparently.  Shown holster wear, etc but shoots great:

With my NIB P228 (upper right) and another I have carried for over 10 years.  The one that just came is in the middle.

Yeah, I would love to find a newer one in better shape, but for $450 or so, I can't complain.

I'm not complaining either. Heck, just wait 2-3yrs and you'll see P228's going for $550+  They're not going to get cheaper. I should have mine this week
