While many seem to think that you just leave a Glock alone, it seems the best pistol shooters in the world have decided to put together their own custom guns. Pistol Forum discussion G&A Article There was a good thread on Primary and Secondary but you have to register to see it. 12/23/16 Update: I'm updating this thread a bit to include the term "fauxland special". The Roland special is a very specific setup: Glock 19 with frame work and slide milling, stock internals, KKM bbl and comp, Trijicon RMR, and an X300U. What about pistols following this functional theme but not actually being Roland Specials? Unlike a clone AR thread that balks at "inspired-by builds" I'm amending this thread it to include similar glocks that deviate from the specific configuration but fill the overall function: RDS and comp equipped Glocks that aren't competition oriented "open-class" rigs. G17s, ATOM/ZEV/etc slides, other optics, upgraded triggers and internals, TBRCI comps, non-KKM barrels, non-x300u lights, lonewolf/P80/CCF frames etc... do not a Roland make, but they are functional equivalents that are being termed "faux-lands".

There should be better corrosion resistance, and the metal to metal contact is supposed to be better. I figure since the Glock factory barrels are nitrided it couldn't hurt. For $20 more it's hard to beat. I'm a fan of the nitriding, even if I think the stainless looks cooler. |

Depending on the company you will also see surface lubricity thrown around, but it is definiately a solid finish. |

The only real issue is that coating takes adds an extra 30 days to production time so they are definitely a lot harder to acquire thanks to added logistics. KKM let me know more stainless barrels are headed my way in 2 weeks... add 30 days for Nitrided ones haha. Busted out the studio lights for the first time in a while to photograph a pal's slide setup he lent me. The DPP's a fantastic performer, but folks who use it professionally apparently swap out the battery very frequently. Not hard thanks to the awesome top loading design, but that factoid is making me lean towards the RMR for my daily carry, despite the RMR's window is smaller and less forgiving.

Any of you guys built a G17 version? Even better, anyone shoot a KKM comped and RMR'd 17 next to a 19 setup the same way and a stock 34? How's the recoil between the 3 and dot tracking between the RMR'd 19 and 17?
I'd like to put a Roland together but don't like the 19s grip now that I'm used to carrying a 34. The hump is in the wrong place for me. I know a 17 wouldn't technically be a Roland but figured this thread would be a decent place to ask. I sold my FDE 19 and want to put something together on a new blue label gun. Just can't decide if I want to do a true Roland or buy a 17. |

Talked to some folks about the RMR vs. DPP discussion more.
Apparently, in regards to night vision / NOD use, the the DPP is simply too bright to be used with NODs. Adjustable LED RMRs however, are great, and Dual Illumination RMR are perfect for NOD use |

I used to have a Sentinel Designs magwell one a G17 before Raven started selling them. I ended up selling it at some point. Might have to revisit the design on a G19 and see if I like it any better. It'll probably come down to a choice between the Freya and Zev Pro. I think the Zev looks like a more functional magwell from the pics I've seen. Don't know if it'll help with the feel of the grip though. |

I'm thinking Dawson Precision fiber or all black sights will be what I run. I really, really like set screws, and I think Dawson is one of the few companies that has suppressor height sights with set screws. |

Here's mine... in department mandated .40 cal.
Slide by DP KKM .40 barrel TBRCI .40 comp RMR06 10-8 sights Have a Blacklist barrel on the way to try out as well. Not sure how I feel about the front serrations yet.

Is anyone thinking of trying the new Strike Industries G4 comp? I think I'd try it if I were going to do one of these builds to save some money and keep the factory barrel.

...and it makes it way easier to push your slide out of battery. It's like to opposite of a standoff device.
