An all rust furniture would be the cats ass!

I added sunshine orange powder until it became like orange bug juice.

So a little more until it was closer to red bug juice.

That produced the copper/cinammon/rust color.  It does look good IRL

This is neat but why dye instead of paint? If the dye isn't penetrating very far into the surface, will this hold up any better then paint, particularly something like Cerakote that can be baked on without melting the plastic?

less mess, no drying time, easy availability, cheaper, easier to work with

My big question or concern would be, how well will the dye wear? My big problem with Krylon is how quickly it will wear and chip off. I could see the dye method being a lot more wear resistant and if that is the case, that would make it very attractive to me.

it penetrates into the plastic.  the plastic would have to come off for the color to come off.

Why rust?

Taped off an OD mag and used black. The other mag was FDE and was dyed light brown. Also taped it off, but didn't like it so I put it back in the pot. Also did a couple MIAD gip parts.

Just a light amount of brown over the FDE?  Looks good.

What did you use to tape the mags off? it looks like you tried electrical tape (I had similar results a few pages back)

Round 2 for me.
Ordered some new FDE mags, rail clips to experiment on, and some good tape.
The OD camo mag came out alot better. Used tan mixed with a little brown on the OD window mag.
The blue mag was straight royal Blue, and the purple mag was purple with a pinch of fuchcia.
Was trying for a pink mag for my wife, but she will have to settle for the purple. The pink just doesn't work. Atleast it matches her purple Larue armadillo.
To bad we can't get some white Pmags.

Really great results everyone.  You have now given me yet another thing to do to my rifle.  I have found some MARPAT type images that I plan to make into stencils.  I figure if I use a sheet of decal paper to print them out on, they should mask pretty well.  Time will tell though.

Thanks for the great thread.

Dude-  Love the "orange" and blue rail covers.  I think that alternating down the sides of my mk18 mod1 would be a nice Bears tribute.

Hell, Blue and Red would be great for Cubs but I'm not so into the cubs.  We can't get white to do white and black so...

I had desert digital stock set on the EE three weeks ago.

My MSAR mags are flawless so far.  They are not as smooth as my pmags to load and they do not drop free from my AR.

If any of you are interested just jump in.  Start on your mag covers to experiment.

I am working on another attempt at Multicam on a MOE set.

When I am happy with my process for MC I will be picking up a Tan polymer pistol.  Still undesided as to which model.

Polymer Pistol opinion-wise, I got my wife an S&W MP40 and we both LOVE it, my battle bud has 2 HK USPs that he somewhat regrets, and I'm sure I don't need to say anything about Glocks.

I scored 10 of the translucent amber MSAR 30 round mags and they lock in and drop free on both my ARs, but they only feed in my Ruger. In my Olympic they are bolt-over-base every time. It does have a tighter magwell than my Ruger, my PMI mags actually get STUCK, but my Pmags, Lancers, and C_Products mags work fine in it. The MSARs are not that tight in it though, so I have doubts about it being the tighter magwell to blame, and wanted someone else's opinion on them. Thanks for the insight.

They sure are pretty though...

The mag on the right looks very close to Georgia red clay.

The purple mag started life as FDE and I used two or three spoon fulls of purple powder , a little bit of fushia, with about  4cups of water of nearly boiling for about 2 minutes.
