Nice! Any idea if Fortis is planning on a 15"? MLOK? Also, will the rail return to zero for the front iron sights?

I need something shorter than 12", and it doesn't look like it's too friendly to shorten.
I've got a great use for some ~9-10" rails, which could simplify my bufferless upper designs.

Inner diameter?
Looks nice!

Yup. That's going on my next build

This is good for what I want to build.

This is not good for my finances.

This design is particularly well suited for short subcal uppers (9mm and .22) running suppressed. Unfortunately, I bet the ID is too small for a lot of cans.

If it's the same as the 308 version it would be 1.34".

Looks great! Surely a great time to be building an AR. Lots of excellent choices.

I was going to go SLR for my next build but now I have this one to consider also.

What kind of wrench installs the barrel nut?

Does it come with one?

They don't come with their own tool but a spanner wrench is used.. Or you can get the AR-15 Multi-tool.

Any chance this will fit over an LWRC piston? Looks very promising in terms of clearance, but also having a rail that can slide off like the Switch for easy access to the piston for cleaning and maintenance would be a game changer.

Definitely +1 on adding a 9 or 10" rail to the series (I'd for sure be in for two, one in 5.56 and .308 )

That is a nice rail just wish the ID was a bit larger for a can to fit in.  You know in case you have to take the rail off if the can gets stuck.  Anyway I love the concept.

So maybe I'm just dumb, but can someone enlighten me with the practical purpose of this rail is?

I could be wrong, but from the photos, it looks like I can remove the rail from the barrel nut (and therefore the rifle) quickly and without use of tools. So in that sense, I would need multiple rails with different items fitted to them? Is that easier than just having one rail with accessories mounted via QD mounts?

Does anyone know if this will work with the Syrac piston system?
Link Posted: 2/27/2015 9:53:56 PM EDT
[#32]
I just ordered the 14" FDE version for my Syrac piston build.  From the all the measurements I took on my BCM KMR (that will work with Syrac piston) and the measurements of a Fortis REV GEN II, this should work (I HOPE )

Rainier Arms, you said the ID was 1.5 further up in this thread but on Fortis's website it says 1.34?  Was your measurement from the bottom of the rail to the top of the gas tube channel?

We haven't had a chance to test the LWRC systems but I don't see why it wouldn't work, it handles AA piston systems just fine. There should be plenty of clearance for the rod as well.

You inspired me!  This works with Syrac piston system.  I love the rail but I am a little disappointed with the barrel nut.  They should have made two flat ends on it for a crowes foot, or a wrench head should have came with like the BCM KMR.  The nut has holes on top of the barrel nut, nowhere on the face.  I had to use a spanner wrench for the castle nut for buffer tube to tighten it.  One tab of the wrench in a hole, the other in the channel of the barrel nut.  I hope I got it to at least 30-40 ft lbs.  I have PRI wrench head, a dpms barrel nut/flash hider tool and none of them work.
