But I have my doubts about it having any advantages. One it doesn't remove anywhere near as much weight as a light weight or as they are called pencil barrel.

The way I see it, it is a give and take. Yes, it is not as light weight as a pencil barrel, but pencil barrels heat up quickly. With the radial flutes, it increases the surface area tremendously, so its cooling ability increases as well, but it still is not as light as a pencil barrel. Maybe the radial cuts are a good balance between weight loss and the ability to stay cool for continuous, accurate, fire? I can't say without testing it, but none the less, I love the way it looks and wouldn't mind getting the radial fluting done simply for the looks.
