I just watched the Animation, pretty cool.

ETA: So does the light just slide in and is locked in place or does it screw in place (removing the tailcap)?

Looks like a promising and versatile product. I like the features you've encorporated, especially the different switch/actuation options!

Will this work with a flashlight that uses a pressure switch, or are those pressure switch plates only for the laser?

Thanks

Is the only switch on the rear of the grip when using a light with a tailcap or do the switches on the side activate the light as well?

That's what I thought, but I wanted to be sure.  Is it possible for the police department I work for to get one for 30-60 days for T&E?

No we have not tried any Pentagon lights in our FGA mount. I looked online and noticed that a some of the barrel sizes of the lights were 1.25" (too big for FGA). I am also unsure about the tail end design of these flashlights fitting into the FGA. Could it be similar to the Pelican design?

Just FYI on the Pentagon lights...  Most of their hand-helds are 1", and there is a "low profile" replacement tailcap available that is round.

I think CAA and Calvin of "BrightFlashlights" would be a match made in heaven!  He's the flashlight Guru, and where quite a few AR15.com members go for our illumination needs.

Just my opinion, but I think that's the coolest thing I've seen you guys come up with. I'll definitely be picking one up in the future.

In the picture with the G2, is the flashlight inserted as far as it will go? I'd like to see the light recess into the mount a little further, but I'm not sure if it's possible with out boogering up the ergonomics.

Yeah, I ordered one too and got the same out-of-stock email Always wonder why companies advertise a product that is not available. I guess to steer someone way from the competition but seems to have the opposite effect with me.

Hey CommandArms01, any idea when these will be available???

10 days ain't no biggie.

Thanks CommandArms01 for the informative and prompt response. Looking forward to trying the new grip out. The big pluses for me are no wired switches needed for just the light, and the fact everything is inline and under the barrel allowing flatter storage in case. Having the light beam in line with the barrel, even if it is below, is a plus too.

Thanks,
stumo

Ya' know, hell would have frozen over before I spent $500 on the other guys model.

This, however,  looks to be a hell of a bargain.  I really like that thumb operated on/off switch in the back.

I talked to them on the phone they said not in time for Christmas. I asked if they could put there gripod in it. They said probably abd that they had received other inquires. I think that would be the neatest thing since slice bread. CAA are you listening???

I'd love to get one of these as I've been looking at them since they were first put on the site.  Unfortunately, I have a pretty much stock carbine that doesn't have a railed forearm.  How do you think it would do with one of those 2" picatinny rail sticks?

We got our two samples for T and E and first impression is very promising.  I have been running a Tango Down with a Surefire G2 in a viking mount.  The first thing I did was weigh my current combo versus the CAA.  Both were weighed with light in place and spare batteries in the grip.  My old combo weighed in at 337 grams and the CAA weighed in at 393.5 grams.  I was a little suprised by this as I really would have thought the all in one setup would have been lighter.

The grip itself is very comfortable in hand and just as comfortable as the Tango Down.  For reference I have pretty small hands and wear a size medium glove.  The surefire light mounted in the grip real easily and getting the switch adusted to the light took just a few seconds.  How I mounted the light was to lock the switch in the on position and then slowly back the light in until it came on.  This seemed to work very well.

The grip mounted easily to my rail and I like the thumb nuts and the fact that it is a split mount and I didn't have to slide it down the rail.  Once installed, it did not have any play in it.  From looking at the web site I did not think I would like the switch location, but in "clearing" the basement it worked pretty well.  I really like that it locks in and off pretty easy and the lockout switch is real handy.  We've had acidental light discharges on missions and this will give us an opportunity to avoid this.  Even without the lockout switch, the location of the main switch should minimize AD's.

I snapped some pics of my prior setup and the CAA setup.

I also took a pic of the CAA mounted on an AR as it is AR15.com.

I'll post more comments as I get to play with it.  I hope to get out and shoot with it in the next few days.

I've played with it alot over the weekend and have since turned it over to the next officer to try.  Here are some more of my observations:

The battery compartment has a taper to it and batteries can get stuck in the grip.  Once I got them out, I put a long piece of foam in first to "spring load" the batteries and all is good now.  I am glad I found this out now rather than out in the dark somewhere.  If they make a gen 2, I would really like to see it hold three batteries and I would probably run a 9v light then.

I've played with the FGA more since the first post and am really starting to like it.  I can activate the switch with several different area of the thumb/web of the hand so finding one that is comfortable shouldn't be a problem.  It is pretty well ambidextrous other than the cross bolt safety but it works well with either hand.

I like that the gripping surface is lower than the rail than the Tango Down grip.  It seems like both the front and rear grip now are more on the same plane and it made it more comfortable for me.  The grip is very very comfortable.

I of course would like to see CAA mold it in OD and tan at least.

I've taken the grip on and off several times and it doesn't seem to be showing any wear in the plastic.

I am not sure if the storage compartment will be waterproof as I haven't seen an o ring or other seal yet.

The removeable grip panels look like the will fit pressure switches nicely and enough below the surface that you won't accidently hit the light.  There is enough room at the rear of the light mount to sneak a pressure switch through if you run a light with a pressure switch.

I actually tried mounting a pressure switch and the set up is pretty slick.   The cord runs out the back of the light mount area and to either side of the VFG.  The removeable grip panels have a plastic spacer under the rubber panels.  Remove the spacer and replace it with your tape switch, assuming it is anyway close to the right size, and replace.  The flexible grip panels are slotted to keep the switch in place.  My switch fit and it was a pretty nice setup.  It was not going any where and had just enough resistance that accidental light activation should not be a problem.  Had I kept it this way, I would have had to clearance out the top of the grip for my chord as it was thicker than the opening.

I think they have a good product.  Comparing price to my current setup the CAA lists for $59.95 and I have $71 in my grip, $20 in my mount, and $35 in my switch (to give me constant on capability) for a total of $126.  If I had not had my money spent already, I would be looking to by one of these in OD.

With either setup I can't mount my bipod with the light in place so that is a wash for both.

I did not play with the accessory rail but it was nice that it was included although I could never see a need for it for me.  If I wanted to mount something else I would just put it on my rails somewhere.  If you were using this grip on a gun without quad rails, then it may be of some use for you.
