Yeah, the boys at work finally got me with the shootout scene clips.. It's time to do the 733 clone.
I did an upper swap on an old bushy XM15-E2S today and then i picked up the C7 upper off of it for $100. Then i remembered the .625 virgin gas block on a shelf......and then i found and ordered an AA voodoo xtra lw 11.5" barrel. So, it begins. I have an SBR lower that is currently rattle canned, but I can always do another lower for retro's. For now, it will do. I habe some random parts laying around like a fiberlite stock. I will post pics here. I missed the retro forum :) |
|
|
Upper is mostly correct. Lower was all tacticool so i have to redo that.
Aframe needs to be drilled and tapped for setscrews. Not going to try and do a barrel swap. I am keeping the voodoo barrel. I have a gunsmith that can do this easily. should look fine. I am unsure on cutting the bayo lug! I really really dig it. I will think about it. I need a retro front handguard ring! gotta order a .625 from BCM. I'm learning! |

Looking really good so far. |

I will say that the sig brace is awesome. Once you sbr you become an upper collector. i also have a 5.56 can, so I can fully trick the short uppers out :)
|
|
What a pain of a build this was.
It's finished :). I used an M16 takeoff FSB with straight pin holes. I had the gunsmith here thread it for 10/32 setscrews. I went to lowes and grabbed some black ones and they are perfect. Really happy with this now. Finally. Front handgaurd cap is a different one as well. The BCM one was not up to specs. Oh yeah i gotta cut off the lug too. Sunday will be fun day i think. |
|
|
yeah i dunno how they got shorter LOL.
and nice 1/12th scale pic. I really love my bayo lug but, alas, it must go :(

Val Kilmer rocked the Commando in the bank scene, he's the one who made the cops and started slinging lead down the street, If memory serves me right, he gets the first confirmed kill and wounds the indian actor from Dances with Wolves before getting winged in the shoulder and Bob DeNiro goes apeshit down the middle of the street. I still don't understand why the gang broke up and Tom Sizemore runs off on his own with his Galil only to be surrounded and gunned down by Pachino. (Strength in numbers and firepower) What kind of .308 AR type weapon was that, that Pachino had during the shootout? It had a big side charging handle and side folding stock......threw me off a bit.
ETA: I agree that the bayonet lug needs to go and that the Driver, who gets shot to pieces in the car is in the Progressive Auto Insurance Ad at the bottom of the screen. LMAO. |

FN FNC carbine. the most outlandish never used by police gun ever LOL.
and yeah I did mine based on Val and Deniro's guns. they were basically identical.
|
|
that's what I wanted. and I need a round F/A as well. given that the Bayo lug and F/A were a changing item on these changeover period carbines, but for the movie it needs to be round and no lug.
|
|
|
i watched enough clips of this @ work with the boys. FNC 80 lol. that's what started this shit!
I am off to find and swap the F/A for round right now.......

I remember watching it for the first time in 1996 when I was in 8th grade when it first got released on VHS. |

Kinda OT
The sound of the gunfire in that scene was the most realistic I had ever heard in a movie when I saw it in the theater. If it wasn't recorded live the foley guys or whomever did the sound editing deserved an Oscar based on that alone. I can't remember ever hearing the echoes of gunfire bouncing off of buildings before that in a movie. |
|
yes I agree! it was actually loud enough. not "hollywood gunfire", but like BOOOM BOOOM BOOOOM gunfire. We we talking about that yesterday.
mt lug is 3/4 cut off....but it's hella loud and I don't wanna wake the old timer upstairs lol. I will finish tomorrow. no rush. I need to remove the paint on the lower to make this look more believable. maybe soon....

Iirc the sound was recorded live. That was a big deal for Michael Mann, that the resonance of the gun fire from the skyscrapers be heard.

Sorry for getting fired up, I thought it was directed at me, that gun is a strangeone to ID. It's a sidefolder, so piston driven, side charging questions if it's in the AR family and in the movie they made it sound louder than the Colt AR's of any variety, even the Galil which we know is 5.56 sounded right. So unless you had previously seen the rifle, or already knew about it, it's oddball. |

View Quote Time Sizemore tries to break right to stay with group, but gets pinned down by fire and has to go left(you see him running up left side of street as Kilmer is laying down suppressive fire. Then as Kilmer and Deniro go up the right side of the street, Kilmer gets hit, which forces Deniro and Kilmer to make a right down the cross street. At that point Sizemore cant cross the open main street to catch up, Classic military bounding+overwatch movement tho, complete with shoot then move communication. |

The slings are throwing me for a damn loop. The armored truck scene shows bunjee cords...kilmer with a red/white one and deniro with a green. They strapped them on in a figure 8 and then the stocks have a zip tie. Kilmers (the one im doing) has a blacked out dog leash looking clip on the stock but i cannot see the attatchment point. the push down clip is not attatched to anything. I can get a bungee, but how the bungee connects to the clip is hidden.

Nice rifle!
I do have two questions, where did you get your barrel and is it a thinner profile under the handguards? I have an 11.5" sbr (xm177E2 clone) but it has a heavy barrel that I would like to swap out for a thinner profile like yours. |

I may just have to find another stripped upper... Great job |

thx guys. My FIRST AR was a NDS A1 half fence....I missed the retro forum and the pita of building the upper....NOT! lol.
the chamber area thickness extends farther than a colt barrel but I really don't mind for safety and heat concerns. ok here is the barrel in detailed pics on my awesome kitchen table. |

In the movie, the cops say that the robbers burnt everything, to include the guns. Why would you keep a weapon that could tie you to earlier crimes? Break in/zero/rapid fire shoot today. how did it go? Well, i got scolded for the ol "no automatic, OR SIMULATED auto fire at this range" thing........ 250rnds. Zero issues, besides a dirty case from old ammo and the F/A actually worked lol. The windage adjustable FSB is great too. It did a gross adjustment and locktited it in. Dead on. What a blast. Omg the fun meter was pegged. After I got the break in and zero 20rnds overwith it was pretty much killing FBI agent targets galore. (Not really, but whatever). I highly recommend doing one of these. highly. I let some guys try it out so thats where the fliers came into play haha. 90% of mine were in the black. 25m: http://s21.postimg.org/wtbtw90br/20140810_134804.jpgimage url uploadRange day today! 25/50/100 man targets (obv man targets its a shootout gun lol) View Quote How loud was that sucker with the 11.5" barrel? What weight buffer were you using? The recoil can be pretty violent with the oversized port needed to run the short barrels properly. I'd think a M16 carrier with H2 buffer would help out quite a bit. I had a 14.5" barrel that was overgassed and really violent, so I tossed a Type D stock and rifle buffer/wolff extra power buffer spring on it. That tamed the beast.... |

Well since i have a suppressor, i am already well versed in AR cycling lol. I thought about it and i pulled my springco red spring and put in a GI spring with my spikes T2. I brought the springco red and blues but never used em. With pmc .223 its a lil sluggush and lockback was sometimes not all the way. With 5.56 it was perfect. Ejection was 3- 4o clock so its gassed well. Voodoo barrel port hole is smaller so if anything id open that up a lil bit to make it run easier on .223 if thats all i was gonna shoot....but its gonna be a 5.56 gun i think.
Recoil....lol yeah def has recoil.it's sub 5.5lbs so its a lil rock n roller. The geissele SSA got FAST once i dialed in the reset. |
