That M&P lower wasn't originally sold as a rifle was it?
Mike

I'm betting the answer to the question is yes and that makes for a big no no.

Out of curiosity, what makes you think this M&P lower was once on a rifle?  My local gun shop sells M&P15 stripped lowers for $149...are they different than other stripped lowers or am I missing something?

No it was bought as a stripped lower and has never been a rifle. I get that question a lot from people who I guess think they know what they're talking about.

The M&P was sold as a complete rifle long before you could buy M&P stripped lowers, and you don't see too many stripped lowers, so that's probably where it comes from.

A lot of people didn't think S&W M&P lowers were available stripped I'm thinking?

Thanks, it's a 7" Midwest Industries Gen 2 SS. I highly recommend this product due to it's light weight, low cost, and ergonomics.

I knew they were available stripped. But they are far less common that way. There are a TON of better/more cost effective alternatives out there. You just don't see them bought stripped very often. My first AR was an M&P15 and I love it. But when I was in the market for a lower for my current pistol build, I wasn't running out to grab an M&P lower.

8.5" 300 BLK
My first build

CMMG WASP barrel
Noveske KX3
Surplus Ammo and Arms stripped upper
SAA Grim Reaper stripped lower. I color filled with nail polish that was a pretty good match for foliage green
CMMG LPK
YHM mid length diamon hand guard
YHM clamp on gas block
Phase 5 buffer tube with H2 buffer
Aimpoint PRO
SAA  m16 bolt carrier (Ice Arms NiB carrier and bolt on the way)
Magpul BUIS

Cycles supers with no problem. Subs eject, but the bolt carrier doesn't feed the next round. Future suppressor will hopefully change that.

Ever shot anything with a really short stock?   Giving up a couple inches of sight radius won't make that much of a difference. at pistol ranges.

A valid argument. I still prefer the longer sight radius.

What's the advantage of the pig tail gas tube? I though about getting one but since mine operates fine without it I didn't bother.

The theory is at it totals about the length of a carbine gas tube, causing a slight slowing of the action/cyclic rate. I have one on mine, and get by fine with a standard weight pistol buffer from Phase 5. Many use a heavier buffer to accomplish the same ends. Some use neither and still function well, others not so much. YMMV.

Just got done building mine. Looking at the first page of this thread, its amazing how far AR pistols have come in the past few years. Many thanks to the individuals who took the time to inquire with the ATF about the legality of certain accessories. I know they have no "legal weight" but they should help with any misinformed individuals at the range who like to mind everybody else's business for them.

I'd be happy to share the specs if anyone is interested.

It shoots great!  I cleaned it first....then coated the bolt with FireClean (letting it "soak" overnight).  Wiped off the excess and all was great.  I put about 150 rounds through it without a hiccup.  Accuracy was pretty good.  Need to bring the sight up a little for better eye alignment.  Take care and be safe in AFG.

Made a few updates to my pistol build. I added a Seekins Precision billet bolt release and a set of Battle Arms Development enhanced take down/pivot pins. I've disabled the Bolt Hold Open Device from DDLES since it was never really reliable. I regret not going with the Colt format now. Oh well.
