Why not just notch the hand guard back to the first lug? Then you could leave the FSB where it is.

Looks like the FSB would need to move up about 3/8" - 1/2".

Here is mine.  Added the carry handle.  PSA Dissy upper, and a complete Blem  lower. sans charging handle and BCG.  Pic is a bit washed out, sorry.

It would be easier to have the rail cut down a bit on the end, then Duracoated, or some other refinishing method. That's the way I'd go.

I built a 308 dissipator with a PRI delta and swan sleeve. Had to notch the hanguard for the front sight to close because it's true rifle length. Came out looking pretty cool and the PRI front sight fits perfect

Hey everyone, I want my current upper to to become more like a dissipator and I can use some advice. From the searching I've done on google it looks like it is possible to get a clamp on front sight and put it near the muzzle and have good results, what I'm concerned about is that I have this barrel: https://danieldefense.com/16-5-56mm-mid-length-1-7-lw-profile.html

I'm worried that certain front sights will not fit properly since it is a lightweight barrel that happens to be free floating and I don't know just how much that can affect fitting. I'm not opposed to getting something pinned, I'm open to different options.

Yes ... somebody else DOES have a dissipator.

I just finished a build using the Spikes Tactical upper unit sold via AIM Surplus (using the pencil barrel) mounted on top of a Spikes Crusader lower with an A1 stock and Black Rain Ordinance trigger assembly.

I'll use an A2 carry handle on the flat top and most likely some sort of red dot.  I'm more than satisfied so far and as long as the groups are good to about 200 yards I'll consider it money well-spent.  Seems well-balanced too.

As soon as I can figure out how to post photos on here using this Apple desk top I post them up there.  Haven't had time to get it to the range yet but that day is coming.

My PSA Dissipator still hefts better than my 16 inch M4gery, because of the ability to have better support hand placement. That lightweight Spikes would just be tits.

Just received my upper a few days ago.  The CAR stock body was purchased at a gun show about 5 years ago for $10 and I never used it. The build will be patterned around a 605, but with a modern twist.  I hope to complete it within a few weeks.

I couldn't get into the new black color so, I stripped down my A1 Style Dissipator and coated it with Brownell's Dark Parkerizing Gray Alumahyde II. After letting the Alumahyde cure for a week, I re-assembled everything. There are a couple of spots that flaked off near the trigger guard but I touched it up with a dab of the Alumahyde.

Here is the way it looked before:

Here is the after:

I bought this upper from a member here and turned it into the Dissipator that I've been wanting for many years. Now I have to figure out if I want to keep the carbine stock or change over to the standard A2 stock.

[Last Edit: Holes] [#50]
Definitely A2 stock. IMO. That with the carry handle lends itself to appear M-16 ish. Always a cool thing. Plus, the open sights are more of an instinctive "center mass" aiming device. Point and click. Like a shotgun. Unless the A2 stock doesn't fit your shooting technique, I'd say go for it.
Not to say people can't be precise with open sights. I personally don't have the eyes like I used to.
