OK, I did a search on here and on the internet and have seen some cool looking AR's. I am geting a new RRA M4 style upper receiver today and I will be putting together a rifle. I want to paint it camoflauge. I am also going to do it to my Mossberg and maybe a pistol. I would like to see some of your rifles that are painted to give me some ideas. Thanks...

Here's a couple of my paint jobs. To chicken to do an AR, plus I don't want to feel like a poser. The bolt guns are hunted with in the real world... Now on an AR predator rifle... Just my 02.

Why would you feel like a poser? Wouldnt having this kind of rifle and not useing it "in the real world" kind of make you a poser in your own eyes also? Not trying to be a smart ass but why have that kind of rifle in the first place? PLease understand no disrespect is intended and I do appreciate your post... And also those are fantastic looking rifles...

Whoa. Don't take offense, none was intended. It's only a personal opinion of mine. If you want to paint your AR that's great. My point was, the bolt guns, for me, are hard working hunting rifles that are camoed for something other than just looks, though appearance is part of why they are painted. Again, paint away if that's what you want. As a tip, I'd suggest sharply contrasting colors so the effect is not a "solid" look at a distance.

I am sorry you think I took offense, I tried to make it very clear no disrespect was intended, I was just asking...

what did you use to mask it with? Just masking tape?

I used stencils that were hand cut and Krylon. I think that acetate film stencils and an airbrush would really look good, especially on curved surfaces. Here's a pic of the stencils.

One more thing I forgot, you may want to consider practicing on an old rifle stock or 2x4 before painting your rifle. After a couple of attempts, my camo looked much better than at first. Just a thought.

Thanks, I kindof want to mock the new Army camo pattern but I need to take a better look at it first. I dont think we are getting an issue of them until our next trip to Iraq tho.

Thanks.

Digital is quite deceptive to the eye. It will really disappear in the brush. Have fun with your project!

Cheapo bow-flage paintjob. Works for me, took 30 minutes.

Far away shot (different tree), works pretty good.

This is actually a work in progress.  I may add a little brown.   This is what happens when you watch Blackhawk Down and than relize you have an extra stock and tan paint laying around.  All this rifle needs is an Aimpoint.  Sorry for the MB, this is a Poly that probably doesn't have the nec. 10 parts to add the FH.  See how nicely it blends in with the carpet.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/Dump1567/poly.jpg

I reeeeally like that camo on 48th's FAL. Truly sweet.  And I wish I had the gonads to paint my AR's. Hawk, those AR's do great justice for camo rifles, I have to admit. One day, one day . . . .

Lauer Custom Weaponry has some nice camo kits. You can pick them up from Midway and probably some others. Check out the Lauer website at www.lauerweaponry.com/. They use Dura Coat.
