Tagged. I love the way camo'd guns look. The digi-cam is pretty sweet looking. I'm trying to decide if I want to paint my first AR.

Sage green seems to work pretty good in most enviornments, not camo, but it does break up the outlline of the carbine:

I'm working on a marpat pattern to work in Texas..  I'm trying to see how its going to look in a real world application..  This is just the pattern shrunk down and pasted in 5 places on this picture of SE Texas woods.  I had to chop the straight edges out around the graphic because it showed way too easily..  there's no shadow's which would help, its just a graphic..  not bad as far as I'm concerned..  not great..  but its not on the gun..

can you see all 5?

this one has 4..  same pattern

here's the actual patterns..  i have them as seperate layers to create each layer on the gun..  you can see how easy it is to just change the colors to whatever style you want..

if anyone is interested in the pattern, just let me know..  i'll post each layer to create a stencil from..  you can use any colors you want..  the squares are 1/4 inch..  you can resize it bigger or smaller if you want..

k.. no prob.. right click, save as..  they are 10"x7" in landscape format so you can print them on your printer..

ideally, you will want to offset the stencils..  that way you don't have identical pattern across the length of your rifle.  i noticed in one of my mockups that the black dots show up distinctly as being far too repetitive, in order to coincide with nature..  so stagger the stencils to keep the different shapes from being repeated in the same plane.

IMHO if you EVER plan on removing it, just use Bowflage.

If you don't know if you want a camo'ed AR, then just bowflage it.

As you can see, I am kind of partial to Bowflage. But then again, I have never owned a safe/range queen. Mine have always been working guns.

I was just watching Black Hawk Down and if you watch the Delta Force operators in the first scene one or more of them has a M4 with a really sweet desert camo. You only get a very short glance at it but that kind of camo looks awesome.

If you pop in the movie to try and see it I am talking about when they are in the helicopter at one point. You will get a glimpse of it.

Hey Turk40SW - how about some more info on your patterns.

what colors are you using for the base and each layer in each camo pattern.

I am getting the bug to do another paint job.

Thanks,

Badredfish

I've been playing with this "shadow grass" pattern...I'm like some of the others and am afraid to just start spraying rattle can paint on my babies, so I'm playing around on this stock which I broke, JB weilded and smooth finished with my Dremil.

I need to take a closer pic of the darkened/final result in pic #2

well.. the colors are not exactly what you can get..   but i styled them after what you can get in duracoat and others as well..

woodland is, coyote brown base coat.  Woodland brown layer 1, OD green layer 2, Flat black layer 3, and desert biege layer 4

The desert camo is coyote brown base, wilderness mirage layer 1, desert mirage lizard layer 2, desert mirage brown layer 3, I think I used marsh for layer 4, but you could sub that for desert biege, stone, or desert tan..

for the urban i used a combination of 3 grays ranging from light to dark, black and white.  The base coat is the medium gray i think..  with dark and light gray layers.  then black and white on top.  I also subbed the dark gray for OD green in my pattern..  the AR depiction doesn't have the OD in it.

If you have an idea..  post the colors you are interested in, by posting a link to a splotch of the color and i'll be more than happy to make a depiction of what it might look like.

i styled the woodland after Multicam..  it appears to be an astonishing camo pattern..  i just don't feel like trying to airbrush fades..  i'm not that good.
