Have a friend that just got a new 6720, it is shooting about a 18 inches high out of the box. Had to move the front sight so far up that the base of the sight post is out of the sight base. The 6720 came with the plastic Magpul back up sight. Anybody else have this problem?

The Colt 6720 doesn't come with a "F" height FSB, they also come with a standard FSP.
You should be able to fix the problem by installing a taller FSP. I find it kind of funny that people thought it was such a big deal that the Colt AR15A4 (a gun where it doesn't matter one way or the other) didn't have an "F" height FSB but no one seems to care that the Colt 6720 (a gun where it does matter) doesn't come with an "F" height FSB. |

Hello, I have a colt 6720 which came with the slightly taller FSP to compensate for the non F-marked FSB. I've turned my post up a bit to get it zeroed with the MBUS it came with, but the post is not outlandishly high. Here is a picture of where it is right now, I hope this helps Note that you can see most of the round base of the post, but not the threads
i think this is the post you want, should you need to order one |

Just got my 6720 from grabagun with carry handle. Has the "F" marked FSB. Gotta check the build date.
I'll post pics, too. Damn, it's hot, though. |

|
I bought a 6720 about a month ago. It has a non-F marked FSB and a taller front post, right from the factory. It was built in January of this year, if the bag is a proper indication.
Mine required no elevation adjustment at all, and about 4 clicks of windage. It came with the MBUS, which I remove, but I installed the carry handle from my 6920. I don't think you have a sight problem. It sounds like that barrel might be bent. Even if they accidentally installed the shorter front sight post, I don't think it would cause an 18 inch deviation. |

View Quote My brother bought a 6720 a few years ago and it has a standard FSB and a standard FSP but it zeroed fine with the Matech rear sight at 50 yards. It seems like Colt is doing some odd combinations with the front sight base and post on the 6720. |

I just picked up a 6720 at my LGS. Came with the carry handle, and it has an F marked FSB with no bayonet lug and it appears to also have the taller FSP. Haven't had a chance to measure yet. I'm kind of stumped about the lack of a bayonet lug...

I went to the indoor range today and zeroed the rifle for 25 yards. I had to move my POI up on the front sight 11 or 12 clicks to get a 25 yard zero. Windage was fine. The gun shot really well, regardless of its quirks. I noticed after getting home the FSP of the 6720 is visually in the same area as that of my 6920s and 6721. Also zeroed a MT6601 with an F marked FSB. It needed about 16 clicks on the front sight to zero. |
|
^^^ Mine is identical to that one. Maybe the models shipping with the carry handle don't come with the bayo lug, or maybe it's something Colt is doing new. 6720s now have those QD code thingies too.

His 6720 does NOT have a F marked front sight base. He talked to Colt about fixing it and the rep said that they would most likely replace the front sight post with a taller aftermarket one as Colt doesn't make a taller post. Also said they would pay to have it shipped both ways but it would take 30 to 45 days before it got back to him. |
|
A month to month and a half to fix a front sight post he can do in 30 seconds...
|
|
Got him over again yesterday with the 6720. Had time to remove the front sight post and mic it. Measures .295 tall, if a aftermarket sight post is .310 I don't think that will fix his problem.

It looks like it might already have Colt's taller FSP (which is supposed to have a height of 0.300) based on your measurements.
Though in your earlier post you said that the FSP appeared to be Colt's tapered carbine FSP which is supposed to have a height of 0.270... Maybe we need to see some pictures to know which FSP it really is. Is the threaded section dimpled/center drilled at the base as shown here. > Link. |

Hey all this is the friend with the 6720 shooting high out of the box. I have some pictures to show everyone. These are pictures of my front sight block and the post while the rifle is shooting high. The pictured position forces me to do a 6 o'clock hold to hit the center of the target at 100 yards. I think I am just going to send it back to Colt and see how things get fixed. I will keep you all updated. http://imgur.com/a/7aaB6 View Quote Looking at your pictures your front sight post appears to be Colt's taller 9MM front sight post. > Link. It's possible that the Windham Weaponry front sight post which is a little bit taller might help. > Link. If the Windham Weaponry FSP works it would be better than sending the rifle back to Colt. |

Cliff the front sight post was measured to the best of our abilities and it came in at .295 inches. As soon as I figure out the best way to ship the rifle it will be going back to colt.

Well, no difference in how it is shooting, still really high. It's on it's way back to Colt.
