Sorry if this has been asked a bunch already, Im sure it has been.

I know the longer barrel will give me more velocity, obviously glass is important as well.

But what range can I expect out of a 16'' barrel in 308 with a omega on the end?

Im not looking to punch holes ontop of holes, looking for man size plate hits at x range.

Assume a Larue or REPR etc type rifle

about 600-800 yards?

Thx

You should be fine out to 800 if you do your part, but depending on your ammo you might be borderline subsonic much past that out of a 16" barrel.
I used to shoot my 16" .308 AR at 500 pretty regularly and could keep most of my shots on a 8" plate on a calm day.

How come we don't read much about REPRs on this forum?

Not sure, Im kinda surprised. Two days ago they released pics and specs of the REPR MKII. Should be shipping in March. Im trying to convince my self not to get it haha. If you want the specs check out the LWRC industry page

Pre suppressed I had access to a 770m range and my 16" tOBR was boring accurate on a small propane bottle at that range with 168s.

SeatoSummit,

Another random question, but do you find that adding a suppressor reduces your the range that you can shoot out to?

Why would suppressing a rifle reduce its range?

That's what happens when you play too much Call of Duty

It won't slow the bullet down, but depending on your gun, ammo, suppressor combo, it may cause POI shift and/or open up the groups a bit.

Haven't shot it past 300 suppressed yet. I feel it makes the rifle more accurate...or makes me a less jumpy shooter...and velocity does increase so my assumption would be that the suppressor will increase range. And I feel there is a lot of evidence out there to support that.

I ran my LMT MWS with a 16" 308 barrel for years, put a ton of rounds through it and shot it in countless matches. Furthest hit I ever made on a man size plate was 1290, but that was luck and took several rounds to make the hit.

Realistically I'd say about 800 is the max distance to get reliable accuracy. For what it's worth, all of my shooting was with 175smk or 178 amaxs.

In the last month or so I have gone to an 18" barrel though, the only reason is I wanted the rifle length gas system so I could run an adjustable gas block, and for a bit more velocity. I plan to start running my 308 MWS in the PRS gas gun series next year with surefire mini socom so a little extra velocity certainly won't hurt.

Depends more on rate of twist. Go tight, like a 1/9 custom, and you will extend the legs with higher BC bullets.

175s fly great with a tight twist past 800yds.

Hornady 178gr ELD-M would be fun to try out.

While I'm not that great a shot, I usually can go 2/5 out to 100o yards with my 16" ECC SR25 and QDC Suppressor with factory FGMM 175's or M118LR so, it's doable.

ETA: We usually are shooting at Torso size and reduced C Zone IPSC targets at that distance.

I actually bought an LMT MWS when they first came out as well, and shot several thousand rounds through it over the years. With its 16" barrel and a Gemtech Quicksand suppressor I was consistently getting 3/4 to 1.5 moa at 600-800 yards, and minute of man at 1000-1190. Past 850 or so the conditions had to be ideal or I would be all over the map. Shooting 175 FGMM exclusively beyond 550yd.

I am very consistent on a 17x24" plate at 1000 yards in a 16" .308 gas gun. It's a 1/8 twist Bartlein blank barreled setup.

I am able to get consistent hits out to 1025 yards with my (un-suppressed) 16" Rock River.
I'm using LR-118 ammo (175 gr) and my spotter has good eyes!
