1. I had a Glock I forgot to leave a mag in the magwell and it closed it a bit.  Had to heat it and push it out with a mag I widened with blue tape.

2. I use paint stir sticks I cut to fit whatever size I need.  Free and work decent.  Only once or twice I've had shitty wood that collapsed a bit but no big deal.

I use scrap kydex and wood for blocking off. I'll snap a pic of some of them when I get home.

Can you tell us a little bit about working with the RTI mounts?   Do you just use one on top of the gun to make the form for the mount?

Not him, but I just cut out a blocking about 1/4 in the shape of the rti and use it instead of the actually mount.

Made these for my dad the other day

And I knocked this out for a buddy that works in the oilfield with different chemicals. He usually uses leather but the leather just soaks up all the liquids and doesn't last very long. This is a pretty rudimentary holster so if anyone has some ideas for the next one feel free to offer suggestions. I'm not real happy with how it turned out. Throw out some ideas to me.

Here is one I made last night for a Sig with a TRL-4. Used the light jig kit from DIY Holsters and it's way better than the homemade ones I've been making out of dowels. First holster I've made using it but I definitely recommend it so far.

when using an RTI hanger, i cut the general shape out of 1/4" MDF, tape it to the gun and press the kydex. you will get the shape you see below. i use some thin sticky foam to go between the hanger and Kydex. plenty of offset for the T posts on the gun side.

im not 100% happy with the top fold of my taco style. i sometimes get a bit of wave or dip in the fold that makes it look a bit funky. now im just making these for buddies and myself so its not a huge deal but id like to hear how others are getting that perfect kydex fold. im using a press i build from wood and door hinges.

You should not have a problem melting a polymer frame gun as long as you have a full magazine in the magazine well nothing negative will occur, some Benders like to block out every snag point some Benders prefer to get as much of the guns lines possible and not block anything, personally I have found blocking out a potential snag point is easier than fiddling with the holster to get the gun to fit and draw nice and smooth so I for one block controls
always block out a sight channel and always block the ejection port on everything anything else would be firearm specific
Glock owb and double magazine carrier

No issues as long as you have a magazine in the gun, preferably a magazine loaded with inert dummy rounds.

For the molded channels, I use popsicle sticks / craft sticks.  You can buy them a Hobby Lobby or similar stores.  The are easy to cut/sand/shape.

Extend your sight channel dowel past the muzzle an inch or so and extend your Kydex at least an past the muzzle.  That way, if you get a horn at the end, it will be cut off.

Additionally, a piece of foam that wraps around the gun will help a bunch.  You can push the gun/Kydex into the crease of the folded foam and get a straight channel.

Same here. I trace the base plate of the RTI Mount and cut it out of a "Paint stirrer" I add 1 washer to each corner for the chicago post to fit in.

I did use an RTI plate to make a template once, however it sticks out too much.

Latest project: (need to finish the belt loop for the RTI wheel)

I use thin pieces of wood. Most craft stores sell packs of large "popsicle sticks" that I use.  Just cut out a piece the size and shape of the port.  Double the thickness if needed.

Just tape it over, with masking tape. That usually does the trick.

For sights and other "bumps", taping dowels or sticks to the gun with masking tape also works.

This.  There's two basic methods.  The one above looks cleaner but takes time to trim the piece to the exact size of the port for that specific gun, and then build it up and finally tape over it.  The second is much easier and still looks good.  Look at the picture of the HK VP9 I posted.  Simply bevel the muzzle end of the stick, place it just past the ejection port, and tape it down.  Then tape from your sight channel dowel to the stick to keep the kydex from trying to form into the top of the ejection port.  It's a simple method that is fast, easy, and best of all, pretty universal which saves time when you're making a holster for a new firearm.  I use paint stirs since I have a bunch and they're free, but popsicle sticks work as well.

Here's how I like to go about trigger guards and ejection ports. I cut two blocks out of .080 or .093 scrap, shape them to fit perfectly using my belt sander.

Then, tape them in place.

Do the same for the ejection port.

Ends up looking like this.

Also it helps to label them with a Sharpie.

Use a square dowl for a sight channel if you aren't already. I too use a book style press and what helps me is to pull the kydex tight when wrapping the fold over and clamp down the opposite side of the sight channel first while stretching the kydex. Since you use a hinge press, put the fold facing the back of your press where the hinges are and then clamp.

These are from using the method mentioned above.

Due to the design I can cut stop blocks to any length and put them on the sides of the press.

I really like these, never had a problem with them and they keep tight retention.  They are predrilled which is nice, but I've had to true the holes up a bit to fit a rivet.

I'm also interested in this.... bladekits.com has some 1.75 drop loops that are not predrilled that may work for you, but I'm needing something similar except for a 1.5 belt.

Any clip that is open on one end (paddle, D-Clips, FOMIs, etc) can have issues with not staying secured to the belt. Something with OWB Pull-the-Dot snap loops is marginally slower to don and doff, but it is as close to bomb proof as you can get without going to a solid loop.
