There used to be an old Cadillac parked at the fire tower on Carter Mountain, north of the lake. The old man that owned the Cadillac lived back in the really deep woods. He'd ride his tractor down from his shack to the Cadillac to go to town and "party" every once in a while. His name was Simmons. I got to know him and another character called Cotton Potts in that area. back in the 70s. They made the characters of Deliverance look pretty tame.
They repeatedly told me not to drive around at night and to stay close to our camp site. They talked about the woolly booger getting you. They always said it with a straight face and got mad when I laughed.

My Grandad used to call everything a Wooly Booger, I doubt it had anything to do with BF.
Grandad was born in 1904 in Bama, but lived in Oklahoma until 1920 or so.
He would not speak about living in Ok, but again, I don't think it had anything to do with BF.
More likely a family "scandal".

Off topic, but sorta funny.

Around 1985 my Aunt who was researching our genealogy, put our family's history in a binder and gave every family a copy for Christmas. In it she mentioned one of my Grandad's uncles who was caught stealing a horse, IIRC that was around 1900 or so.

I thought this was kinda funny because of how bad a horse thief was considered in the old cowboy movies, so I asked my Grandad about him. The next thing I knew, the kindest, most easy going old guy you ever met, buried both his feet in my ass.

He didn't think there was anything funny about it, and told me, never talk about it again. He was absolutely pissed off, as mad as I ever saw him.
I told my Aunt about it, and found out he also jumped her ass for putting it in the book.

He's been dead for almost 20 years, otherwise I still wouldn't talk about it.

Grandad was a great man, he and I were best buddies.
He and my Grandmother lived about 2 miles from us, so I spent a couple nights a week with them.

They were good old country folks. He was a coal miner, She stayed at home cooked three meals a day and kept a spotless house.
She packed the best lunch you could ever imagine anytime Grandad and I went fishing.
I sure do miss them.

I understand that point, but when I hike off trail in the Cascades in the middle of the summer, I very rarely see anyone, despite all the cars at the trailheads.  The majority of Americans don't get out in the woods much.  The vast majority of those who do get out in the woods, do so in good weather, during daylight.  They seldom venture far from the road or trail, let alone in bad weather or at night.  Even people who go off trail tend to look for the easiest route and avoid the really nasty places (brushy stream bottoms, swamps, etc.).

Here in Washington, Cougars have been pretty good at avoiding hunters since we banned the use of dogs.  It happens, but  it happens a lot less than it did when we used dogs, and I think we would all agree there are a lot more Cougars than bigfeet

FWIW, I'm not a believer.  The evidence I've seen isn't particularly convincing, IMO.  However, you can't prove they don't exist, and we discover new things all the time...

I'd suggest you not do that. It's not the deer you are sneaking up on that snorts, it's the one you don't see. And it would be exactly the same thing with Bigfoot. You might think you are doing the stalking but you may the one being stalked. And the difference between them and a deer is a great deal of intelligence and the fact they ARE NOT afraid of you.
I'm not going to play their game in their territory. If I want to get one, I'm going to do it on my terms - in the open and no cover around allowing one sneak up on me.
A healthy fear of what they can do will help you set up on one or more if the circumstances are right.

Has anyone tried hunting bigfoot with dogs?  It's one thing to avoid detection by a person, and another thing to keep a dog from tracking you.

Until I read Muddydog's posts, I always thought sightings wer few and far between, but it sounds like you could get some dogs on the scent and run one down like a Couger, kill it, and have yourself some proof.

I know Grover Krantz and Washington State University wanted to kill one.  I think some folks up in this neck of the woods even took tried using helocopters and thermal imaging to find bigfoot and came up empty.

Grizzlies don't hunt or run in packs. It is more than a fair guess to the fact these critters hang in family units.
I figure it might be like dealing with snakes. It is the one you didn't see that gets you.
As far as dogs chasing one, I know of a story that was told about a Great Dane and a Pyrenees chasing one of the critters in the snow. But an alpha male would probably not run - it would fight..
As far as individual dogs being afraid of the critters, I'd say that was a sure thing.
We set outside of the Indian casino on a near by road one night in two squad cars. One car was the K9 unit. We were playing with the dog, a mean ass German Shepherd, when he quit and went to the back of the squad car wanting in. We were next to the gully which the critters were known to use to coming to raid the casino dumpster. That dog was mean - even bit his handler several times over the year the  tribal PD had the dog.
We just guessed he smelled something and we left immediately after that happened.

I think it would be very foolish to hunt Grizzlies with a bow.

we have tried several tried and TRUE hunting and tracking dogs..
even dogs with known courage..hog and bear dogs..none will get far from a truck in these areas.
the list of breeds and known hunters we have taken out:
redbones
bluetick
walker
dogo
GSD
rhodesian ridgeback
pits
catahoula

all of these were excellent dogs, that either i or my friends have taken out into known areas of activity. none would get away from us and sometimes the vacinity of the truck.

hell whitepit lost one of his best coondogs one night. we looked for a week or so and finally found her around a house nearby.

but the weird thing was..
she had ALWAYS been a very personal dog.
when we found her, she would avoid anyone walking up to her.

i dont know if she was skittish from a distance about bipedal animals or what.

After mentioning the tribal PD and the critters, I thought I might put this report up that is on the bigfootencounters.com website. The nearest big town is El Reno, about 30 miles west of OKC.

There have been some bigfoot researchers out here to investigate some of the sightings. One man told me that he found enough information in one day, and then he did in one month at other locations. This terrain is open farmland, wooded area, spring and swamp land, swampy looking, and a few sandhills.

There were two creatures; one was bigger than the other. They were at least all of eight foot tall; chest was about 2 or 3 feet across. They were black, hairy. Kind of hunched over when they walked. They had strides of about 3 to 4 feet long when they walked.

OK, well, my father, brother, we left the house to go hunting. We went to a place on our tribal reservation. We didn't see any deer, so we went to visit some of our friends. After we left the place we went to another part of woods, which is located on the west side of the reservation. A road separates this particular wooded area and on the outskirts is a railroad.

My father and brother were driving down the road. We went pass the railroad, and then went up the road. Then we turned around and started towards the railroad. When we came up on the railroad crossing, my father stopped and he spotted something about 3 to 5 hundred yards down the tracks. So we stopped and we had some binoculars and started to check them out.

We noticed that there was one. I took the binoculars from my father and started down the tracks to get a better look. I noticed that there appeared another one. We were on the south part and the creatures seemed to be coming toward the south from the north.

This is just one of some sightings in this area. The sightings have been occurring in this area for a long period of time. This place is on the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribal land.

The incident was shocking to my younger brother; he said he isn't going to hunt that particular land. Well, hope you investigate this.

Our tribal owned casino has this creature on video. It was digging in their grease pit. And some of their workers had spotted it...

That's big, something I've considered for a long tme.
Sometimes because of letting my big dogs get out and get some exercise and wanting to get out myself, and as a strict night owl, I find myself out in the mounains in some very harsh weather, at night, and I can't help but to consider how few people will ever in their lifetimes be out at these times in these conditions. Few people will ever find themselves standing the woods in the drenching rain in the dark where mist from the rain limits visibility to a few feet. And even when me and my dogs are we're not really that far away from human influence.
Even without the rain or cold or snow, still few people are out in the woods at night, and campers at the edge of the wilderness areas or close by trails could and would easily be avoided by most wildlife.
You could suggest hunters are out in harsh conditions in some places, but how many people hunt at night? Besides running coons which is somewhat obvious to a few square mile area when it's going on.
And yet people would say what can and can't be out in the deep forests.

I'm surprised that a Walker wouldn't hunt. I've got a older Walker male and he will chase anything to ground that he can smell or see. Lately it's been squirrels and various birds. In my experience with 2 diffrent Walker hounds they are excellent tracking dogs.

Just an interesting note to this statement, an extraordinarily large percentage of the spec op troops such as SEALS, Rangers, Marine Recon in this country  come from the midwest and southern states where coon hunting is common.  The Rangers claim they own the night, it's the coon hunters in the Rangers that make that statement true.
Overcoming the instinctual fear of night that we all have, the deep rooted attraction to a campfire at night, is certainly due to night predators in our ancestral memory.
I know of one small patch of woods that is less than 40 acres are so thick a man cannot walk through it.
What is in there beats anyone guess, including the owner of the land. Like you say, how anyone who has not been in such an area, much less one of thousands of acres and miles and miles of deep timber, can say what is there and isn't, is ludicrous.
I've never seen one porcupine in central Oklahoma but I know they are here. I have a whole jar full of quills that I helped pull out of a dog's nose.
I will say this - you have a much better chance of seeing a critter in the remote deep woods than you do in a wooded area close to human habitation. The critters living close to people are a whole lot sneakier than the ones in the deep woods.

I'm an avid hunter, spend a lot of time in the woods.  I don;t think these things exist.

1. Some redneck, like me, would have dropped the hammer on one by now.
2.  One certainly would have been hit by a car.
3.  With the popularity of game cams in the woods, I find it very hard to beleive that not one of these has snapped a Bigfoot.

I also find it curious that our arfcom resident bigfoot hunters haven't posted any pics of their deer carcasses and monkee "nests", LOL.

once again..
they have been killed..there has been numerous animals killed all over north america.
1- either the family group carries them off.

2- or the humans get scared and leave the the area.

No. Bigfeet are extra special and there is ALWAYS and excuse as to why they cannot be hunted or killed even though man is able to hunt and kill incredibly huge and dangerous game all the time.

Scientists believe they have discovered a new group of giant apes in the jungles of central Africa.

The animals, with characteristics of both gorillas and chimpanzees, have been sighted in the north of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

According to local villagers, the apes are ferocious, and even capable of killing lions.

A report about the mysterious creatures is published in this week's edition of the UK magazine New Scientist.

If they are a new species of primate, it could be one of the most important wildlife discoveries in decades.

Primatologist Shelly Williams is thought to be the only scientist to have seen the apes.

During her visit to DR Congo two years ago, she says she captured them on video and located their nests.

She describes her encounter with them: "Four suddenly came rushing out of the bush towards me," she told New Scientist.

"If this had been a bluff charge, they would have been screaming to intimidate us. These guys were quiet. And they were huge. They were coming in for the kill. I was directly in front of them, and as soon as they saw my face, they stopped and disappeared."

Mystery

The discovery has baffled scientists. There are three controversial possibilities to explain the origin of the mystery apes:

   * They are a new species of ape
   * They are giant chimpanzees, much larger than any so far recorded, but behave like gorillas
   * They could be hybrids, the product of gorillas mating with chimpanzees.

So far, researchers have little to go on, but they now plan to return to northern DR Congo to study the apes further.

In the meantime, there are fears that unless measures are taken to protect them, poaching could threaten this new group of primates before the mystery of their identity is resolved.

my friend and his brother were the ones involved in the SKS incident.

if they wanted certain aspects known..they would tell people personally or dissiminate thru the internet on various boards.

i have been told certain things and i have been told that there are some other things as well that either are not correct in the papers or were never told to anyone.

if Mike and Tug want everything laid out about the incident, they'll tell it.
