Don't know how it been in other states but here in Florida most prisons and Sheriff offices have a range. Before the Clinton days almost all of them were open for public or at least club use on the weekends. Over the Clinton years every single prison or police range has been closed to the public & clubs. Now that we've got Ashcroft and double Bush's. How would we go about a quiet campaign to get public/club use of the ranges back.

I know the stopper will be safety, so maybe start out with club use only, that way you've nra range insurance and certified range instructors whenever there is public use. Also thinking of idea of a dollar donation per person toward officers widow fund, and range cleanup days.

So who should we start writing to?

No,  The stopper should be money--if someone quietly went to the range officer or CLEO, and they were at least gun neutral, if not pro-gun (forget anti-gunners), and proposed to them that by opening it to the public, or leasing it to a club, the maintenence, etc. could be covered without dipping into the department's budget.
