We recently took a long weekend to Cherokee, NC and gambled at Harrah's, did some shopping, and rode around in the mountains. Stayed in a quiet little cabin with a hot tub. My only complaint is that there are not many great places to eat. We always ask where the best local, non-chain restaurants are and were repeatedly told that none exist. After trying for days to hit up some delicious BBQ . . . we finally believed them. Trip, including cabin, cost less than a thousand bucks. We won about 8,000 at the casino and spent a couple hundred buying Native American art and a couple of homemade bird houses and stuff.
It was a nice, relaxing getaway. Cheap, too. |

San Antonio river walk area is nice if it's not too hot. A mission
tour is always nice. If you like western lifestyle and rodeos then go to the Fort Worth Stockyards. If you like the mountains then go to Aspen and stay really cheap at the Mountain Chalet. It's a really nice ski lodge style hotel that has great off season rates. then get over to Maroon Bells and it will blow your mind. Take a horseback ride at Maroon Bells and see that beautiful country and the amazing mountain views. Get in a car and drive up to the Continental Divide. |

I'd fly into Bozeman, rent a car, and then spend the next few days day hiking both the NW corner and Lamar Valley of Yellowstone. Both are breeding regions for brown bear and wolves, with the NW corner being mostly Bear Management Area, meaning some restrictions apply depending on the season. I've spent considerable time hiking around both and once you get a couple miles from the road(s), the trails get less worn, and things get more wild. I've seen some of the coolest things in my lifetime on those solo hikes back up into those areas. There's also undisturbed wickiups and tipi stone circles in the area, with several of the locations being undocumented. They're one of those things you look at, respect, and then leave without touching anything. Very, very cool to see.
Plus it gives you an excuse to buy a brown bear gun (though spray should be your primary defense tool). |

Go see the painted desert at sunset. See the Grand canyon. (jaw dropping IMHO)
The valley in AZ got a lot of rain this year. pretty soon the entire desert will be carpeted in wildflowers, that is gorgeous. |

Museums, government landmarks, etc. But, living there, traffic sucks, cost of living is through the roof, new housing is cookie cutter and looks like every other fabricated community. Crime is everywhere, it's part and parcel to living in a big city, LOL... unless you live in Potomac, MD. Maryland has strict gun laws, Northern Virginia has a ton of Democrats thus unbalancing the statewide votes. |

My suggestion was going to be the Boca Raton Resort and Club, but looks like you decided on Vegas. I was visiting Boca earlier this month and the resort is one of my favorite places.
Aria is a good location. You can walk the strip. Cabs are cheap and plentyful, so don't be afraid to hop a ride. The hotels look a lot closer then they really are. I'll be there this weekend. Staying at the Bellagio. Although I'm not a big Vegas fan, we end up there several times a year due to my wife's work or meeting up with friends. A day or two is all I can take. Consider a trip to Hoover Dam if you like site seeing and want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the strip. |

Mostly remember a lot of driving, more driving, and a lot of stopping off at McDonalds so the wife could take a piss every couple of hours. Hardly remembered where we stayed when we weren't in the damn car driving trying to figure out where and what to do. By the time we found places that we got comfortable with it was time to rush home to get ready to go to work Monday....with all the other peons in the weekend rush hour traffic. Good Luck. |

For the timetable you gave, Vegas is a good idea. I'm usually done with that place after 2.5 days anyway.
If it was ME, I'd head down to the Central Coast of CA: San Luis Opispo, Pismo Beach, Morro Bay. Mrs. Labzilla and I went to Cal Poly and there's tons of wineries, shopping, hiking, beaches, etc. But I'm only 4 hours North East of there. That would be an inconvenient trip from the East Coast. |

I now get 6 days off every 2 weeks if I want 'em. Over the summer and autumn, I plan on going to Chicago, NYC, & Wash. D.C. to hit up all the museums.

Kentucky Bourbon Trail is about right for 4 days plus travel time. 2-3 days is enough time to visit a bunch of distilleries and get home. Its a great trip.
