We found out soon after buying our lake place in Ocala NF the guy that owns the two properties next door to us was in prison for diddling his 8 year old niece. Heard he's out now but I've never seen him around. It's apparently not uncommon for people to " Wander Off " and never to be heard from again in our 710 sq mi forest.
Good. |

My buddy lives in a typical subdivision block. It's a very close block. Big BBQs on the holidays, help building decks, kids all hang out at each other's houses with play structures and pools, that type of stuff.
One day one of the parents was doing some legal research and discovered that the oldest guy on the block affectionately knowns as Pops was convicted of child molestation and peeping about 40 years ago. This was long before the predator lists. Within weeks the guy "retired" to Florida after being confronted. |
|
OP's situation sucks because the perp in question is clearly a very evil man. All I guess anyone can do is keep a vigilant watch on such people. There is a legitimate question here though: if he forcibly raped two young children, why was he released from prison to begin with? It seems like it ought not to be too hard to get a life without parole sentence for raping young children, if not the death penalty. These types of convicts should never see the outside of a prison.

Perhaps he elected to serve his total sentence and was released without Parole, or maybe he was ineligible. Different states are different so it is hard to say. Odds are he probably is on Parole/ post release but more information would help. In any case if one calls the probation office they will redirect you to the officer, if he has one. Many states will not do indefinite terms of supervision (NC will not but it will honor lifetime cases from out of state that transfer). Even when the Parole period has expired one like the OP mentions is probably on a lifelong monitoring program. |

What was his relationship with the kids he raped? Were they relatives, or children of known friends, his neighbors? Or were they just "random" and he cultivated them somehow? Or were they actual attack and grab rapes? Not that it makes any of this better, but if he hasn't gone after kids he doesn't know, it at least makes random kids in the neighborhood a bit safer statistically, and might ease your mind at least. I've spotted him walking his dog in my neighborhood twice daily. I keep a fairly close eye on that neighborhood watchdog website to see if there are any sex offenders nearby. We live in a subdivision that is pervert free right now and (Scare-lette notwithstanding) full of decent folks. However, about two city blocks up the main road (we're very rural and don't actually have blocks out here) there is a shithole of a matchbox house that is NOT in a subdivision and a child molester moved in. I'm not sharing photos or addresses. I like my privacy. I started seeing this dude walking about three-four weeks ago. It's a daily thing - twice a day like clockwork. He's very recognizable and looks exactly like his mugshot from years ago. I remember his case very well. It was big news here locally. This guy is a bonafide child molester. This isn't a case of an 18 year old having sex with a 16 year old girlfriend. This asshole is mid-sixties and had TWO victims under the age of TEN. For some reason, he's out of prison and living near me and mine. One victim was a boy, one was a girl. I have one of both under ten. Side rant: why aren't child molesters stored UNDER the prison and never allowed to see the light of day again? There is an elementary school about six blocks from the entrance of my subdivision and four blocks from his gravel driveway. WTF!? We have a neighborhood watch and I alerted the Homeowner's Association. We've pinpointed the times he is likely to walk through. A bunch of us have taken to riding around in golf carts during those times to let him know that we know what he is. I'm hoping the scrutiny keeps him out of our neighborhood going forward. One of the guys on the HOA board is mad as hell at us because he feels like the chi-mo has paid his dues and shouldn't be "harassed" but I'm of the opinion that a leopard doesn't change its spots. Once an animal, always an animal. I don't feel like holding my children hostage in the house when the weather is gorgeous and they can finally ride on all the hoverboards, Segways, skateboards, rollerblades, rollerskates, bikes, and shit they got for Christmas. My kids are old enough to play outside in the yard alone but I am not okay with them being outside alone as long as a damn Great White Shark is swimming around looking at them like they're seals. What do we do? From what I can see, he's not allowed within 100 feet of schools or parks or shit. He's just far enough away from the school that he isn't breaking any rules, but his fucking house looks out over the goddamn playground and there's NOTHING between him and that fenced school except air and opportunity. Maybe I'm an asshole and my line in the sand is too big, but when you do that to a little child you forfeit your right to live like everyone else. You NEED to be watched. You NEED to be held accountable. I don't give a shit that he went to prison. Prison probably made him worse. I'm mad as fuck. I don't know what to do, but this shit isn't going to work for me and mine. Selling my house isn't an option right now. Advice? View Quote SSS |

Some states require LE or the Social Services, that do case management for Sexual Preds and Offenders, to post photos of the pedo anytime they move, usually within the first 30 days. If that's the case, you should be seeing his mug posted on local power poles and fences, etc. Just call your local sex offender office, probation, or LE to ask how its handled. If his case is local to you, all his info and outcome of his status will be on the court website. I'd be surprized if he's not required to be registered and has to report anytime he moves, etc.
The guy may be keeping an eye out for the new posters to get placed around the neighborhood, so he can take them down asap. Maybe not. Even if LE doesn't post his mug shot within 30 days of moving in, like some states do (or all states?), how can anyone prove if Joe Citizen stuck the posters up around the neighborhood, the school playground fences, etc., or didn't. Heck, someone could put a stack of 8.5 x 11 mug shot posters (black and white copies, its less $$) in the back of their pickup, which would end up all over the road for miles , but that might be considered littering. No one would want to litter just to prevent anther 10 year old from getting raped. As for "he did his time, he's free" is BS. Sexual predators and pedophiles are known to be forever, which is why there's sexual predator registration requirements that last for entire life. So NO, their time is never "done", they're just free to walk among us and our children.. |

As someone that used to work sex crimes, they are EVERYWHERE. They were there before your Megan's law registrant showed up and wherever you move they will be there as well.

Leave the guy alone. He's not doing anything illegal by walking his dog on the sidewalk. Do not harass him, do not talk to him, do not follow him around on a Segway like you're some mall cop.
HOA busybodies disgust me. Yes, yes, there's always some justification for it. I don't care. Freedom is scary. I would show the kids what he looks like, point him out, and tell them to stay far away from him. A decent camera system is a good idea too. Make sure it's positioned well, and has enough quality to capture details at the distance you need. (driver in a car for example) |

I get your concerns OP, and they are legitimate given the history, but this is why I avoid HOA's and avoid having neighbors and avoid being able to see my neighbors or hit their house with spit. If you are so concerned, you should consider moving, but since you don't want to since this is "your place", you will have to take what comes along with it. In the 20 years I've lived in my current house we've had 3-4 pedos move in the neighborhood. We know because the city sends out a notification, not for our protection mind you, but to warn us if we fuck with the guy we'll go to jail. Having no kids they're not a problem for me, I'm more concerned with the released burglars and armed robbers, but apparently the police don't care if I fuck with them, only the pedos.

my wife's client was the head psychiatrist at a state hospital for years. I always enjoy talking to him when he comes in with his wife when she gets her hair done. He has some really interesting stories about his years working there. we were talking about a pedophile one time and he said the recidivism rate on true pedophiles is something like 98%. It's very high. In his opinion they were not curable. he said there were cases of severe abuse as children that represented as pedophilia later in life that were still very high risk but were manageable but that born pedophiles were for all intents and purposes, not curable. |
