All the tourists and athletes with their money come and spend in hopes of paying off the facilities and then some. Afterward the facilities turn into usable space for the area -- Olympic dorms turns into apartment complexes, stadiums now used for local events. It also helps show the diversity of the world we live in by showcasing local customs.

Now, thats all fine and dandy and a great vision but now throw the human equation into it, sprinkle in some corruption and a dash of cronyism and this is what you get.
