here s how I always like to handle this type of situation... play the long game.  be super cool to him, kill him with kindness invite him out to a few times then invite him to play a sport with you start with golf or tennis. then invite him to play basketball or soccer or something and absolutely level him but make it look like it was part of the sport.

a soccer tackle could easily be turned into a shin stomp or perhaps you accidentally elbow him in the face the same goes for basketball.   that blocked shot attempt could easily become swatting him in the face with the palm of your hand or an elbow to the ribs or clavical when going for a rebound.  that being said if there is a 0% chance you could get him to participate in a sport with you then you re going to need a different plan... but let me tell you nothing like playing the long game and crushing someone while playing a sport...sports are great for that because you know people get hurt while playing sports, it s part of the game



you could try to arrange a corporate paintball outting and get creative from there

If large corporation.....

1.  Go to HR and tell them that you feel threatened in your job by him.
2.  Tell them this is because of you following company safety policy.  Clearly list offenses.
3.  If company has 800 hotline for reporting start calling and saying you saw him harassing others in an inappropriate manner.
4.  Find others who have had run in with this tool and have them do the same.

He'll be in sensitivity training at the very least.

Google the level of education and difficulty of obtaining a registration in each career, then ask yourself who you would want to be in charge of your operations.  Yes there are those that think poorly of engineers after they find and "AH HA" in the field, but I don't see any field guys doing design.  I would hire a guy who digs ditches for.. digging ditches, I'd hire and engineer to figure out where the ditches need to be dug.

Have a meeting with him and your superiors. State that you've heard he has been making claims about you. If he says yes, he has, ask for proof. If he denies it, then it should stop there. When he denies it or has no proof, you will be cleared. Also state that if you hear any new rumors you will assume it is retaliation for his safety violations (have dates and times of the safety violations if possible) and you will make a formal complaint with HR.

That's it...the final straw....tonight when my wife gets home I am throwing her dinner on the floor....

I had a boss like that too....humilated me in front of my crew one afternoon....I just stood there taking his abuse waiting for him to shag his fat ass back down the tracks to Minneapolis and his air conditioned cage...when he started poking me in the chest accentuating his angry insults with each jab of his pork sausage like finger and screwing up his ugly face with it's squinty little pig like eyes.

He was standing on tie edge with his back to a 20ft embankment overgrown with poison ivy and blackberry tangles....took him quite a while to lug his portly out of breath carcass out of that hole.

Thank God for the union since everyone saw him lay a hand on me first...I was only demoted from a $60K a year job down to a $30.... with no hope of advancement every again...

Mentors don't just turn on their proteges. They are in those positions for their ability to reason, teach and cultivate the intangibles, as a general rule.
