Hot Standby: Full mag, hammer down on empty chamber safety off.
Cuiser safe.
If I have to grab a long gun, I am charging it right there. The safety will still be engaged. |
I wasn't aware you could engage the safety if the hammer is down... My 870 is like that

This, right mag tube filled with 7 rnds #1buck flight control wad federal, left tube filled with 7 rnds of Remington 1 oz sluggers. By just racking this badboy, all bad guys immediately shit themselves and pass out |

Cruiser ready. ETA: Oops, learn something new every day. Looks like you guys are calling it "Hot standby" -fully loaded, hammer down, and safety off. Have been calling that "cruiser ready" since at least a Jim Crews class way back when. |
Full Tube, one in the Chamber, 6 in the receiver caddy and safety on

I have three shotguns loaded, an 870, a Charles Daly Field Tactical, and an FN Police. All have full tubes (7, 4, and 6, respectively,) loaded chambers, cocked hammers, and safety on.
Full tube, chambered, safety on.
I carry a handgun with a round in the chamber, why wouldn't I store my long guns the same way? |
Cruiser safe. Dropping the hammer never had even occurred to me.... what would the rationale behind that be?

Having to pull the trigger on a firearm with ammunition onboard as part of the make-ready cycle is fucking retarded eliminate that step wherever possible to reduce possibility of ND.
Loaded tube, empty chamber, hammer cocked, safety on. Remington 870. |
Cruiser ready so when I rack the slide I don't eject a cartridge onto the floor where someone might trip on it.
full mag, empty chamber, hammer down, safety off.
I also sleep with it at port arms. |

Neither. Mine is still in a plastic footlocker from when I moved about 2 years ago. Not loaded but I think there might be a round or two on the side holder. I think....buried in the garage at the moment.
