If real....things just got real...
Turkey has begun a defacto blockade of Russian naval vessels, preventing transit through the Dardanelles and the Strait of Bosporus, between the Black Sea and Mediterranean. According to the AIS tracking system for the movement of maritime vessels, only Turkish vessels are moving along the Bosphorus, and in the Dardanelles there is no movement of any shipping at all. At the same time, both from the Black Sea, and from the Mediterranean Sea, there is a small cluster of ships under the Russian flag, just sitting and waiting. The image below shows the situation with the ships using the GPS transponder onboard each vessel: In addition, shipping inside the Black Sea from Novorossiisk and Sevastopol in the direction of the Bosphorus, no Russian vessels are moving. This indirectly confirms the a CNN statement that Turkey may have blocked the movement of Russian ships on the Dardanelles and the Strait of Bosporus. There is a Treaty specifically covering the use of these waterways by nations of the world. That Treaty is the Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits. If this report is accurate, then this is ...
The opening volley of ww3.

Meh.
Turkey is showing its true colors as an isis supporter. Surprise? No. |

Shipping shut down over the Russian shooting down of a Turkish plane? oh snap
Fuck Turkey out of Nato |

wasn't free international transit through the Dardanelles and the Bosporus part of the treaties that ended the first world war when the Turks surrendered? I know it was one of Wilson's 14 points.

The Russkies should fly one of those pods overhead and disable all their electronics.
That'll show 'em. |

Talk about poking a bear! The Russian Bear could squash Turkey in one blow, so they are being awfully foolish to play with fire like this.

Huh kinda surprised Turkey has a navy of 212 ships, that's lot more than I expected.

I seriously doubt this is true. Even if it is true I can't believe that we would let a puffed up terrorist supporter that conned their way into NATO drag us into a shooting war with the Russians.

Well, sputniknews has just hinted at something along these lines. Yes, russian news site.
Turkey Has No Legal, Economic Basis to Close Bosphorus for Russian Ships Tensions between Russia and Turkey over the downing of a Russian Su-24 bomber in Syria may challenge freedom of navigation through the Bosphorus Strait, a major pathway for Russian ships. However, a Turkish unilateral ban on the passage of Russian ships is unlikely since it would violate international law. Ships wait at the entrance of the Bosphorus, connecting the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara in Istanbul © AFP 2015/ BULENT KILIC Russia Hopes Montreux Convention on Turkish Straits to Remain Inviolable A day after the Russian Su-24 bomber was shot down near the Turkish-Syrian border Russia deployed S-400 air defenses to the Hmeymim air base in Syria in response. In recent months, Russia’s heavy military equipment has been delivered to Syria mostly by sea, with the shortest route coming through the Bosphorus Strait and the Dardanelles. A sharp rise in tensions between Moscow and Ankara may challenge the delivery of Russian weapons and troops through the straits. If passage is prohibited for Russia there is still the way through the Gibraltar (which takes 13-14 days rather than four days through the Bosphorus) or by air. And more from them. http://sputniknews.com/politics/20151126/1030827768/turkey-russia-bosporus-strait.html |
