The last time I was around for it, my (now ex) wife followed the ambulance to the ER, saw that he was attended to, and left. He was shocked and pissed off at her "neglecting" him; she pointed out that if he was capable enough to choose not to take his insulin, he could deal with his own emergency care. Keep in mind this was probably the third time she had gone to the hospital with him, and she's one of 5 children plus his wife. One day I jokingly wondered if one day his wife would find him passed out and simply not call the ambulance. My sisters in law replied "We're surprised it hasn't happened already."
