That missile looked like it was going awfully slow.
Does the Saudi Army get the same Abrams our guys get or the monkey model? |
1. Export model or not, for the crews sake, I hope the ammunition compartment doors and blow-out system worked.
2. Where the heck is their infantry? |
Pretty sure that's how it's designed. The ammo is stored in the back of the turret and it has blow off panels to vent the propellant when it cooks off. |
Don't like to see that, even if it is an export model. I doubt the crew survived.

These are the guys we're allowing to develop nukes.
I don't have words |

Doesn't seem like monkey models:
In July 2006 the US DSCA informed Congress external link [PDF] that the government of Saudi Arabia wished to purchase 58 M1A1 Abrams tanks external link, then upgrade these M1A1s, along with its existing 315 M1A2s, to create 373 M1A2S (Saudi) Abrams configuration main battle tanks. The sale will include kits, spare and repair parts, communications and support equipment, publications and technical data, personnel training and training equipment, contractor engineering and technical support services and other related elements of logistics support. The estimated cost is $2.9 billion. View Quote |

Can someone please explain to me what a "monkey model" Abrams is?
What is lacking besides the advanced armor array? |

View Quote usually it means not the latest armor package and maybe less advanced targeting systems. i think when Australia got their M1's, they had normal composite armor just not the DU layer |
So if Saudis go to war against Iran, their tanks are meat on a plate. Interesting.
Can anyone tell if that was a Russian ATGM, or an Iranian made TOE copy? |

Who is shooting at the Saudi's with advanced ATM's and where?
The Saudi's got plenty of money, how do we know if this wasn't just them sacrificing a tank to test armor capabilities?
There are ways to prevent this.
Sitting in an open field within atgm range of high ground is not one of them. |
If hit the back of the turret and into the round storage if the door was shut they are fine and thanking General Dynamics for designing such a safe vehicle.
New turret, maybe. |

View Quote No one, including the US, ever thought the M1 Abrams was invulnerable. Getting taken out by a modern ATGM isn't outrageous at all, we lost them in Iraq to RPG-29s, which have less penetration than a ATGM. Missile is most likely an Iranian ATGM, a local copy of the TOW. |

I served with the first Marine M1s in the first Gulf war. The poor Aussies got one of USMCtanker old tanks. |

Is this ATGM comparable to what engaged our tanks in Iraq?
Isn't the RPG-29 a credible threat against our current tanks? |
Mideast tank tactics. Drive 1 or 2 tanks into ATGM country and sit there with the AC on doing nothing because you have no infantry.

Who is shooting at the Saudi's with advanced ATM's and where? View Quote Houthi Repels, from Yemen Yemen is split almost evenly between Sunni and Shia. A civil war brought down the govt, rebels control most of the country, fighting between Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), supported by Saudi Arabia, and the Houthis, supported by Iran. The Houthis are winning, all the Sunnis are running away, lots crossing over into Saudi Arabia. A few months ago, Saudi invaded Yemen to stop border incursions and because they don't want another powerful Shia country nearby, that is a Iranian proxy. The tank that was taken out was located in a contested area within Yemen. |

The few that were used successfully took out US and UK MBTs. The ability of most ATGMs is grossly higher than even a RPG-29 tandem round. The US has never had to face a significant ATGM threat. |

No air assets? No infantry? Just park in the middle of the field and fuck goats?
Looks a lot like Syrian Government tank videos, too. Same shitty tactics will result in the same shitty results. |

So Al Qaeda versus Rev guard led tribals?
And both sides now have first world weapons? I hope they dont ever decide to kiss and make up. |
