I was loving across the street from my grow up home for 8 years.  I moved 16 miles away last month.  My parents kick ass so I am happy to be near them.

I couldn't possibly be any closer to where I grew up.

From the time I was born, until I was 19 years old, we lived in the same house.
When my parents died, I bought the house from the estate.
I am literally sitting in my mom's basement posting this, even though she is dead and I am in my 50s.

I have only lived here about three years. I spent about 30 years living on the other side of the country.

Approximately 900 miles, NC to Wi

Here is an interesting comparison for you, my Dad was born and died in the very same house. Other than the 6 years in the Army during W W II. He was 90 when he sat down in his favorite chair, in the living room and shut his eyes (6 months after Mom)

So, how far away are you from where you grew up?

Bit more than 300 miles. I moved from suburban Detroit to Chicago in 1996 when I fled the auto industry, which actually turned out to be a wise decision,my ears ahead of its time. I'm the only one of the extended family on my dad's side to actually go to college, let alone graduate. So I was already the black sheep. Moving out of Michigan just confirmed that in everyone's eyes.

I grew up from 4 to 17 years a block and a half west of our current home on the same street. When I was 17 I couldn't wait to get the hell out of here. At 30 and with a young family I couldn't wait to get back. I learned just how smart my parents really were in the 13 years I was gone.

5 hours away

Close enough that I can drive back on short notice but far enough that I have an excuse for not being able to make it back. Works out pretty good.

Same here.  In rush hour traffic closer to 20 minutes.

I would like to move another ten minutes away.  That short distance would make the difference between living in the suburban strip mall infested place I live now to a much more quiet rural setting.

About 45 miles. My parents still live there. They drive over a couple of times a month to meet me for lunch.

My brother lives about 9 hours (drive) away and I am not sure where my sister lives, but I think she may be closer to home than me.

Eight miles, just across the state line, I like being a South Dakotan much more than an Iowan but it's nice to be close. My mom just sold the house I grew up in, makes me feel funny when I do drive by it.

"grew up" as in what ages?

Dad was in the USAF, so we lived in quite a few places. From about age 5 to 12, I was in Europe. Then lived in Louisiana for about 3 years, and then here to Texas, where I have lived ever since.

According to Google Maps, it is 661 miles.

My brother lives 524 miles from where we grew up, but in the opposite direction as I moved.

I have absolutely ZERO interest in ever going back.  I don't even want to go back to the state in which I grew up.  Proud to come from there, but never want to go back.
