I'm thinking about dumping my 2010 F250 6.4.
-With cat/dpf delete and spartan, it gets ~21mpg highway and tows my 22' ski boat @ 80mph comfortably while getting 14mpg. -It seats 5 comfortably. -It's got no problem space-wise with hauling sheets of plywood or compressed gas cyclinders for work -It's 4WD If it were shorter, narrower, lighter, and had a more reliable 4WD system, I'd keep it forever. Is there such a vehicle? If I could take one of these, put Dana's in it and a 300hp/600lbft diesel under the hood, could I tow 5000lbs at 75mph?

I can fit a bunch of crap in my 2014 xterra pro4x with the seats down and it is 261 hp stock. There is A LOT of hp left on the table via tune, cat delete, headers, exhaust etc. The 4wd is bulletproof and the pro4x comes with electronic diff lock and some damn hill thing for towing that I have not figured out because we don't have hills and I don't tow.
Great truck though. Lots of room, and well made. |

Even if you "can tow" 5000lbs, the vehicle isn't rated for that capacity so legally NO.
New Jeep Wrangler is about the closest thing but milage will suck. |

Why don't you fix your 4wd system it sounds like the easiest/cheapest option to get what you want. You can mount an np205 in your truck and it is plenty strong.

Do you have any experience daily driving a truck like that? Sure you can do it, also have shit suspension that'll rattle your teeth, shit heater, shit ac ( if you have a aftermarket assembly installed) rattling doors, uncomfortable interior, and a whole list of other things. Come to Oklahoma, I'll trade you trucks. You're 2010 is so fucking far ahead from that truck it's hard to imagine. Tell you what, get a day where it stupidly fucking hot outside, don't use the ac, crack the window (this will simulate the oven like nature of these old all metal cabs, and chop off your exhaust (this will simulate you listening To the Incan noise, even with lots of sound deadened the all metal cab still reverberates a lot of sound) and only shut your doors until the first click (this'll simulate the rattling youre going to experience). Then see if you really want that. Even if you build a fully restored example, even with a modern drivetrain, it'll stil gonna fuckin suck. I'm not bragging here, I'm fuckin poor. I can't afford a new truck so the shitness of mine is just something I embrace. It gets really tiring after awhile. Don't take your truck for granted.
All the above applies unless your spend $200,000 on a restomod, or are such a good fabricator you wouldn't have asked this question in the first place. |

Actually soon you'll be able to buy the truck you're mentioning: the 2016 Nissan Titan with Cummins 5.0-liter V-8 diesel engine. It will be available in 4x4, is lighter, shorter, narrower than your F250, can tow your 5K-lb load, and is built in America.

Longer wheelbase & truck weight tend to help you pull loads with aplomb. Short wheelbase and lightweight = painful to keep your load from wagging the truck. Dangerous. |
