13 years and he passed quickly in a place where he knew he was loved.

The loss always hurts, but you've got to pat yourself on the back. You gave him a great run.

He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds;
my other ears that hear above the winds.
He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea.
He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason
for being by the way he rests against my leg;
by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile;
by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him.
(I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not
along to care for me.)
When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive.
When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile.
When I am happy, he is joy unbounded.
When I am a fool, he ignores it.
When I succeed, he brags.
Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful.
He is loyalty itself. He has taught me the meaning of devotion.
With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace.
He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant.
His head on my knee can heal my human hurts.
His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and
unknown things.
He has promised to wait for me...whenever...wherever--
in case I need him.
And I expect I will--as I always have.

He is my dog.

Sorry to hear that, but sounds like he got to go being in a familiar place near family. We should all be so lucky. Still sucks when you lose a friend.

I had to ask my wife to take my lab/pit mix down to be euthanized so I had time to dig the hole.

I how have at least two graves ready, in the absolute perfect spots!!!!!, so I can help my furry kids in their time

Sorry for your loss. I know how you feel. I had to put my dog to sleep last week before his heart failed completely.
Like losing one of my children.
Just remember all the fun you two had together.

My oldest will be 12 this fall, and he's the best damn dog I've ever had. Love him to death, and I don't even want to start thinking about him not being around.

I pray that all dogs do go to heaven. Because, when it's my turn to go, I sure hope he meets me at the gates.

I'm still hurting for you my friend.
I'm up early because my leg is hurting.
But my heart hurts more from remembering my friend I lost 10 years ago.
The unrequitted love she always showed me is something I can never forget.
We all have those we love and those that love us but the relationship between a man and his dog can sometimes be the greatest thing in a man's life.
Women came and went when my girl was still alive. She never bitched or whined and was always all over me when I walked in the door, just glad to have me near her.
My wife came along after i lost my friend. We have been married 8 years and she is still astonished I can tear up over that dog very easily.
I want to tell you it will get easier but I can't.
All I can say is everyone should be that lucky to have that type of relationship with a dog.
You are blessed to have had your buddy!
