Is it the the new light bar? These Go Lights or whatever they are called.
How many people actually use them? Is it a status symbol? |

Sounds cool, I imagine a good way to check on the cattle, got a link.

It is dark when you get away from the mall parking lot and street lights.

They fit into one of three categories:
1) They honestly use them off road out in the field. 2) They have never been and don't even know how to off road - but some day hope to. 3) They are for show only, they are hipsters that use DE shavers and never ever plan on being off road, they are as fake as they come.

This is what I'm talking about. 1/3 of the trucks in Mississippi have one on the roof. Not really, but I see a lot. |

These days ... you mean since the 1970's? Not many, but some take their trucks off-road and that means a lack of street lights, street signs, and .... streets. Having a pair of pencil beams in the middle and a pair of driving lights on the sides allows me to light up the trail to see what the hell I'm driving into and over and makes finding my way a hell of a lot easier. I also have huge sidelights and an LED light bar pointed aft and an HID remote controlled spot light above the passenger's seat. I used to be the trail leader for a pretty big SUV club. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/paul1960/StarsatNight.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/paul1960/Xterra/Zombie%20Lights/ZombieLights101.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/paul1960/Xterra/TopSideView.jpg View Quote I was gonna say.. nice paying attention to detail op |

If they're on a scratched up, dented and muddy truck, they've been used for their purpose.
If they're on a Tundra that looks like it belongs on a showroom floor, with a salt life and yeti cooler sticker on the rear window, it's never been off road, and it's a status symbol for wannabe redneck Bros. |
|
They are great until you get into the wrong parking structure......then they are expensive after you smash it all to hell on a low hanging I beam.

I think those giant KC lights from the 80's need to make a comeback. The ones with the yellow covers.

Never did like them on the roof. Way too much glare.
Much better mounted on the front bumper, but alley and work lights work good mounted up high. And yes, the LED lightbars absolutely rock. |

They have very high output vs. the power the draw, and the new slim lines are very good looking. When used for their intended purpose they work great.

He is talking about the single spotlights as opposed to all the lights on a bar.
I have a spotlight on top of my company vehicle. I have a remote for it and it will tilt up and down and revolve almost 360 degrees. I use it when I am on call because some of the sites in my on call area are out in the middle of the swamp and the light really helps. |

I have 2 of those Go light remote control POS on my work truck. Its ok to be able to point it wherever while sitting still in park. However not worth a crap while driving and also trying to use a stupid ass remote.
Took me over a year to get them to mount a old style A pillar spot light on the damn truck. Now much easier and safer to use while driving riding out power lines in the dark looking for trouble. Fuck a Go Light. |

I seem to recall reading in California's hunting regs that "having a spotlight and a gun at the same time" in your vehicle is considered sufficient evidence to convict for poaching, specifically "spotlighting". Am I wrong? But surely the Game Warden is a reasonable man... |
