Despite widespread backlash over fake documentaries, supposedly educational networks are turning to them more and more in efforts to net viewers and in the process are making people dumber. View Quote Last year's two-hour special on Discovery, called "Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives," convinced 70% of viewers that the giant prehistoric shark still existed even as outraged scientists insisted that the show was ludicrous and almost entirely fictional. It didn't help that Discovery made coy comments about the documentary being a legitimate contribution to scientific debate. This summer, Discovery followed it up with "Megalodon: The New Evidence," which became the highest-rated episode of Shark Week with 4.8 million viewers. |

Increasingly? It has sucked ass since it first aired. Lots of bullshit.

Serves scientists right for trying to convince people global warming was real
Being such intelligent people, I'd expect they'd be able to figure out how to change channels, or simply turn the goddamn thing off.
History Channel's history leaves a lot to be desired as well. The 'experts' they find for their documentaries must be from a temp agency.
History and Discovery Channels both use to be about the only thing I'd watch if I took the time to sit in front of a TV. Now it seems it's all garbage.
They've all gone to crap, especially The History Channel. To hell with those bastards who cancelled "Dogfights."
Near as I can tell, scientists really aren't that much better.
What do you expect? We have an entire society who is used to being fed shit. Democrats feed us shit, TV shows feed us shit, about half the Republicans feed us shit, colleges feed people shit. Movies feed us shit.
