A lot of governments, including ours, are doing almost everything they can to discourage savings. Low interest rates, inflation, taxes, etc. They want people to keep spending.

With all the Russians getting their money out, they're going to have to take almost everything... the ones with less than 100K may have theirs taken too initially... it's insured so, the govt. has 10yrs to give them back their principal without interest.

"Blocked funds" may mean that those funds (that amount) are frozen.  They don't want a run on the banks.

That's crazy.

Saddest part about all this is the swindlers and crooks still got there money out while the banks were supposed to be shut down.

I'd be more of a get my money and get the hell out kinda thing. I wouldn't fight for a bunch of idiots that elected the other idiots that got them into the situation they were in. If they were not screwing around with shady ammo deals between Iran and Syria their power plant wouldn't have blown up  either.

i think most of europe is really rethinking having a savings account. you KNOW there is no one in cyprus that will ever put money in the bank again. you would be a complete fucking retard to trust  a bank, or gov after that happening once.  this has killed the banking in cyprus. everyone there wants their money back, and they will keep hitting the banks everyday, all day, until its all out.

The IMF/ECB was ready to tell Cyprus to get fucked unless they came up with 'x' Euros.  If the Russians really did get their money out (as reported/rumored), Cyprus had to get the money from somewhere.

Trying not to get all tinfoil, I seriously wonder what all is going on there that we're not seeing.

To stop the run, there's a 300 Euro/day cash withdrawal limit and a 1000 Euro/day transfer limit.

The "block" is something else.

and they're already talking about a 2nd bailout

Other than hard goods, what else can you realistically do with your saved income?

Any sort of electronic investment is subject to the same sort of lock.

Cash, PMs, etc have to be physically safeguarded against loss, theft, and unintentional destruction.

/Serious question, a large portion of my savings is locked up in land

Covered, as well as standard preps.

I suppose my serious question was more of a serious rhetorical question.

I'm thinking more along the lines of liquid assets. There aren't really that many options of what to do when you're trying to keep liquidity.

I've got land, preps, investments, a job, and a half assed business plan for a small side business doing AR500 targets, which will need some investment of capitol and time from me.

All that being said, I still have liquid assets. There's only so much you can do to protect them and still have them be liquid. I suppose that's the cost benefit question that we all have to individually answer. How much do you leave in the bank, how much do you spend, and how much do you stash physically?

The scary part is that since the loopoles were there for the Russians, that changed the game... sure, they say they won't confiscate anyone's bank account under 100k but, in reality they will and say they're going to pay it off.... ok but, they have 10yrs to do that and, they don't have to pay interest on that money either.

If this unfolds that way then, why would anyone in Europe keep their money in the banks?!?!?!
