You think being disarmed during a time of civil unrest is bad? Wait until it happens here and the only thugs left with guns find out that people are stashing cash in their homes. |

Quoted: I'd be finding a rifle and "unblocking" the rest of my money. Yep. This is how people transition from being your average, law abiding, everyday man or woman to a (justifiably angry) citizen who is revolting against the status quo and hanging certain individuals from lamp posts on the street. There is such a thing as the "rule of law" and it cuts like a double edged sword. If "the powers that be" are willing to live and abide by it then the average citizen will, as well. However, if those same powers try to circumvent the law (for their own selfish gain) then, eventually, so will the average citizen. Soon after that, the average citizen will realize that when it comes to certain crimes if a person is willing to "buy" the first major crime then the rest will be free. It will at that point where the "Law of Unintended Consequences" will enter the picture and that's when the "powers that (used) to be" will come to seriously regret their past decisions that screwed over the common citizen. |

I'd levy a 100% tax on several people's lives for that. The scary part is that since the loopoles were there for the Russians, that changed the game... sure, they say they won't confiscate anyone's bank account under 100k but, in reality they will and say they're going to pay it off.... ok but, they have 10yrs to do that and, they don't have to pay interest on that money either. If this unfolds that way then, why would anyone in Europe keep their money in the banks?!?!?! They will put their money in the banks because there is no place to put it. With the restrictions in place (forever) you will be payed via direct deposit as always, and then what? Remember they said this is a template for the next bail out. They will look for the loopholes and fill them for the next time. So when they get here they will have it down pat. As far as cash stashed. The bills will be worthless when it is all over and new moneys (if any bills/notes exist) and then you can use them to start the wood stove to keep warm. |

A lot of governments, including ours, are doing almost everything they can to discourage savings. Low interest rates, inflation, taxes, etc. They want people to keep spending. Americans are. With everything going on, I'm honestly surprised that anyone with that much cash in the bank in Greece or anywhere in the EU hasn't had it moved elsewhere by now.

Blocked does not mean taxed. They are limiting withdrawals to try and maintain some funds in the system. Restrictions on capital flows are common in history. Not generally effective but nothing new.

Source? Not 84% tax. Last I heard from a friend who lives out there is that a big chunk of the funds are locked down to prevent a run on the banks (These are the blocked funds), but the tax rate has not yet been decided. In order to stop the economy stalling they have had to make a small percentage available for now to allow money to start moving. (these are the available funds) |
