My Grandfather is 83 and is doing just fine financially but sometimes he gets the itch to sell a gun here or there. So yesterday he hands me this and tells me to "double my money on it"

Well that shouldn't be an issue

He says that he's fired it 12 times since he bought it new. I stayed with my Grandparents a lot when I was a kid since they always had a place to shoot BB guns and fish and I remember finding this gun in his nightstand drawer (I didn't touch it since I knew about guns even as a young child) and being mezmorized by the finish. Needless to say the gun isn't going anywhere and I'll be purchasing it from him or buying whatever he wants to replace it with. I honestly don't know if I should even shoot it?

Wow.  I would keep it and shoot it once a year on your grandfather's birthday.

Sweet!

The receipt says Nickel, but is it really stainless?  I don't know much about Colt revolvers...

If you didn't already give him his $600, I will.

Very nice - and I would definitely shoot it - and think of Gramps kindly during and while cleaning it up afterwards.

Then makes plans on who gets to "sell it" when it's your time to "double your money".

I think even a Colt hater would have to love that gun.

Now go shoot that revolver.

Honestly, if it was me, I'd buy it from him and lock it in my safe.  Forever.

The box says nickel, it's just hard to take pics of since it's so shiny!

So you buying it, or putting it on EE? I don't see that beauty lasting long.

Buy it, if for no other reason that it was your Grandfathers.

I have a Colt Trooper, Immigration Inspector Special I bought from an outgoing Chief a couple years ago.  I paid $600 for it, never been fired, with the original receipt.

To a Colt collector, more than 600.  Desirable finish with all the complete box/papers? I'd say better than 6.

Absolutely, especially in unfired condition. I didn't look very close, but if it doesn't have a turn line it will probably bring a little more than one with a turn line.

A few years back I traded a Judge to him for a Colt police positive that I gave to my Mom for a HD gun.

Blued ones are running mid 600 range on gunsamerica/gunbroker.  For nickel (Colt never did the Lawman in stainless) with box and papers, you could do even better.  Not quite as desirable as the older Colts but still a very nice piece.  Colt anything has been going thru the roof in recent years.

I showed it to a gun store buddy yesterday and he said that it's worth around $750

I'd shoot it.  I have a Colt Diamondback that I got from my grandfather.  He used to shoot it in his basement, I shoot it occasionally.

I am not a big fan of modern Colt revolvers, but that is BEAUTIFUL - and from your Grandfather to boot.  Congratulations.  Now plan to pass it on down to your grandkids some day
