I thought I'd setup a thread so we can discuss tactics and equipment for upcoming tournaments. That way we don't have to wade through the regular WoT thread for relevant information and keep it on topic.
With that said, I know I was a little confused after reading the description about if it was limited to tier V lights or 5 light tanks of any tier. Smallbore found the thread on the WoT forum and apparently it's limited to tier V lights. So that leaves the following options: M24 Chaffee VK 2801 ELC AMX T-50-2 I've only run the ELC and frankly it sucks. The lack of turret rotation I think would be a significant limitation. So . . . some mix of the other three? Thoughts? World of Tanks Skirmish XVII page World of Tanks Forum Skirmish XVII thread Skirmish XVII Working As Intended team E-95 |

It looks like the 2801 is the clear winner with the 2nd best pen and gun as well as the armor and HP to brawl in close quarters. Maybe three 2801's with a Chaffee and its higher damage and penetration to snipe from range and a T-50-2 to dart around to cause confusion?

The only Tier 5 Light I currently have is the ELC
I did some figuring and I'm closest to the T-50-2, about 15k exp away and then I'll need to spend anotherr 11k or so to full upgrade. I'm about 35k away from the VK2801 and the Chaffee. I'll have to do some premuim running and convert a bunch of free exp to get one of these tanks. Looks like i"m grinding this weekend |

I don't need no steenkin' browser extension with Chrome.
I just took a look in my garage. I can unlock any of them at this point but will have to do some grinding to get them fully upgraded. What's the consensus so I know what I'm working toward? E-95 |

Recommend me some crew skills for these light tanks. Keep in mind that I'm going to have to spend some gold and get a 100% crew sometime this weekend so I'm not going to have much time to get the skills built up...
|

Of all the light tanks, the M24 Chaffee is probably the most well rounded. T-50-2 is simply too fast...going 72kph and trying to hit other scouts will be time consuming. They make great harassment tanks, and should be up on the front line as the for zipping around and forcing a dog fight. The M24 will pull in as the 2nd line, and deal out most of the damage. The great thing about the M24 over the VK2801 w/105 derp is that a miss is much less costly due to higher ROF. The 2801 would work well as a rammer and HP sponge. IIRC they have the highest pool of HP @ 610, and surprisingly bouncy armor.
ELC shouldn't be considered, due to the lack of turret and the opponents it'll face. I'd consider the following line up: 2: T-50-2 2: M24 1: VK2801 or 2: T-50-2 3: M24 |

Do we have anyone with time behind the wheel of all of them that can give a recommendation? I was leaning more toward the 2801 as a brawler with the Chaffee as a stand off, long range gunner to lay the larger damage. It's gun is as accurate as the German's but I would think that its significantly weaker armor would be a liability when we get into a close quarters fur ball (which I figure is going to happen in at least a few of the matches).
Smallbore and I are in the same boat. We won't be anywhere near 100% on the first skill / perk since we don't even own whatever light we'll be driving. With that in mind I'd think that the following skills / perks would be best: Commander: Recon Gunner: Snap Shot Driver: Smooth Ride Radio Op: Situational Awareness Loader: Repair or Camo The fact that none of the loader perks come into effect until they reach 100% hampers things a little. E-95 I don't have a VK2801, but I do have a Chaffee and a T-50-2. I agree with what Hobbez said in that the t-50-2 is more of a harasser or scout, its to fast to hit much. Chaffee has an extra 10m of view range over the t-50-2 and has a good gun, so it can fill the sniper role. For the most part we will run whatever anyone has or what they are best in. |

With the exception of 2001, who isn't joining due to time commitments, I don't know that any of us have a ton of experience with the Tier 5 lights. AJ has a couple, at least. So, with that in mind, I think we're approaching this as a way to practice driving lights and just get a little more tournament experience in. Figure it'll be good preparation for the future. Side note: Havok ended up losing their next match, 3-2, to Cap Fast. |
|
I've read quite a few threads in the WoT forums and it seems the general consensus is that the Chaffee is superior to the 2801. While the 2801 has better armor and more HP's, by comparison it's slow to accelerate and rapidly bleeds speed during turns. This makes it an easier target for OPFOR. And the Chaffee's gun has a higher rate of fire and a higher average damage so its viewed as the greater threat.
Of course these reviews come from regular public matches where they face much higher tier heavies, TD's, and mediums. Not same tier lights only. Still, I'm probably going to be grinding for the Chaffee this weekend. E-95 |

Hmm. Anyone want to buy a slightly used, low mileage but elited Chaffee? Slight smoke and fire damage. Great for that commute to and from the front lines. Serious offers only.

There will be more skirmishes, every one is different. It will give us a chance to build up our crew skills and our own skills in them
Chaffee is a fun tank to play, not the crazy zippy thing that is the t-50-2, but it can lay the hurt down |

I don't really rate our chances very high, or if it's even worth the effort, considering we'll be going up against the likes of FORGE and other, much better teams. I'm also not 100% sure I can make it on all the nights this is supposed to go for, and I've not really got a wide range of tanks to choose from (I'm probably best off with my Panther 2, but could also bring my T32). Tactics-wise, we should probably bring something like 4 tier 8's, a tier 4-5 scout, and a tier 5-6 arty. 42 points on the nose, and it gives us a good mix of units for slugging it out and support. I expect we'll run into a lot of teams with 2 IS3, 2 T44, T-50-2, and SU-8 (or a makeup very similar). Some very strong tanks for that tier, especially on a map like Malinovka where there isn't a great deal of cover and you really need to be able to maneuver. |

Signup ends at 6pm today, we need to submit our team before that
These are just for some fun, maybe a small chance at grabbing gold. The more of these we play the better we will get. |

The first tournament we did, we were about 10HP/10secs from beating Havok. They lucked out, forced a draw and then won the next battle. Also, in that tournament, arty was more a liability than anything. Also, if anyone plans on shooting gold, buy it while it's on sale. |

As a result, I've only got the Panther 2 and T32 in my garage at the moment (besides an M4 Jumbo and a T14, neither of which would be of any help). So, I'm really limited on what I can bring if you guys end up needing me for any matches. On the upside, my Panther 2 has Rammer/Vstab/Optics and I'm like 100/100/95 on the crew skills. What are we going to use for voice? In-game, or one of the TS/Vent servers? |

Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: That's about what I thought, too.Quoted: We've got our seven minimum. We could use one or two more just in case AJ or Temp can't make it because of clan wars though. E-95 I signed up. Three or four IS-3s (the fourth possibly being a Tier 7 to get an extra tier of arty), a T-50-2 and a Tier 5/6 arty. And, you'd be surprised. The first tournament we did, we were about 10HP/10secs from beating Havok. They lucked out, forced a draw and then won the next battle. Signup ends at 6pm today, we need to submit our team before that These are just for some fun, maybe a small chance at grabbing gold. The more of these we play the better we will get. Unless anyone has any last minute suggestions I'm going to close it out and submit it for approval. E-95 ETA: Closed and submitted. |
