Slowly, but surely getting back into it--left knee still bothers me when it's cold out, but luckily this winter in Texas lasted about a week.  Going to start bumping the mileage back up next week--would like to get back to around 25-30MPW.  Also decided to give HR training a shot this year despite how much my pace will hurt my ego.

I assume you're using a GPS watch of kind, but I found that it was really helpful to remove all pace and time info from the screens I typically use when going by HR.

Without being able to see how fast/slow I'm going I don't really care about it.

Yep FR220 with whatever HR strap it came with....I probably will do that and just make sure the only info viewable on page 1 is HR.  Might even have to turn off mile notifications.

The 220 is a solid watch.

I typically only use one screen that shows both HR and distance. I kept the mile notifications, but only have it show total distance and average heart rate for the past mile.

I switched to this last summer once it got hot. It was discouraging to see how much slower I was once the heat and humidity rose. I eventually acclimated to it and sped back up (at my usual HR value), but not having pace saved some frustration.

It's been a good to me for about 4 years or so now, but it's exceptionally frustrating to use during bike rides/swimming/triathlon so I'm looking to make the move over to a 920XT once I can justify the $400

In the next couple months Garmin will release their newest Fenix watch, which are for multisport (other options than "just" run/bike/swim). A month or so after that the previous gen (Fenix 3) should really drop in price if you want to look at those.

I am starting to get back where I was in December.  My only scheduled race is a Marathon on 07 May.  At my current weight I will probably max out at 3:10.  If I can drop another 15 lbs I might be able to get under 3:05.

It's time for new shoes. Over the course of running in my Altras I have started to land more on the outside of my feet which has led to IT band pain after long runs. I didn't really know why I was starting to hurt until I watched how my foot was landing. I was surprised to see that New Balance has brought back their Minimus MT10v. I have a pair on the way to see how they compare to the old ones. I got over 400 miles out of my last pair.

Was sick for a while and just now getting back into it. Plus, I have a hill race coming up the end of this month, So I have been doing more with the stairmaster. Yesterday, I was on it for an hour. Really working the calves, hamstrings, thighs and glutes. After this hill race, I am going to jump back on the cardio in prep for spring/summer road races.

That run is from Wednesday.  I got food poisoning or a stomach virus and have been laid up.

On the plus side I found a shortcut to 180 lbs

Congrats on your half. I am doing one next month. I will probably make time early one morning this month just to make sure everything is in order. I did my first official one in November and want to better that time by a good bit.

Thanks. It wasn't an organized event, just the first time I have run that distance. I've been wanting to do it for weeks, but the weather here hasn't been cooperating.

I was on track to do more, but the snow got in the way. It did let facilitate some XC  ski miles which aren't counted in that total.

Removed all pace info off my watch (except mile notifications since I can't change that to display anything else) last week--have noticed my casual pace is 30-45 seconds slower just going alone off of trying to feel completely relaxed at all times.  I know I'm crawling up hills at points.

Did a baseline HR test this morning--not sure how I feel about its accuracy, but I'll take it for what it says.  Started with a moderate paced mile to get warmed up and then did four sets of hill sprints--they were only about 100m each, but between the climb was about 40ft which works out to ~12.2% grade.  Originally I had planned on doing more, but after seeing my heart rate max right after the first I didn't see how it would get much higher.  I saw the same max on the second sprint and a just under during the third and fourth.

Results show I have a max HR of 208 BPM--quite shocking considering the two methods for estimating HR are either 220 - age or 208 - (.7 x age).  I'm waiting on the HR training book that Keen recommended to be delivered by Amazon, so until I finish it I'm just going to keep running without pace info and will probably start recording my easy run HR to see what it looks like
