The old FAB10 you had to pivot open the receiver to top load. The NY10 you press the mag release and the mag drops down and you load it from the side. The mag does not come out of the receiver and is non detachable. Craig

Craig, as about the sole voice of reason, you understand the pitfalls of believing what makes sense is legal.
Others may do as they wish. I'll be getting a Thordsen stock for my R 15 lower and legal barrels from my R 15 223 upper, Stag 300 BO and Bushmaster 450. Small price to pay to avoid jail. |

Thanks. |

So WTF is good enough for you? Why don't you email Cuomo instead of wasting everyone's time here when you did get the correct answers. |

Agree on the stock.
But on the fixed magazine, the chief chest thumper implied that it is okay. (wishful thinking) BTW, found NY legal barrels for all my chamberings. Thanks for all the help ! |

Susan Gunhater was quoted as saying:" The intent of the SAFE act is clear. I have one that might pass with just a grip swap OR fixing magazine. DPMS 308 w/24" target bbl, fixed stock no banned features except grip and magazine. Better to go fixed mag and keep grip or vice versa ? Ideas on appropriate products that pass muster would be appreciated (can't trust all makers claims) Thanks in advance. Wasn't there some big brouhaha a while back about how the Thorsden stock wasn't legal in NY and everybody pulled them off the shelves? Last time I looked Stag still hadn't put them back on their site as NY legal.

The NYAG can decide to prosecute or not, but that is based on a whim. If you think some blessing from the NYAG means something, guess again. They can still prosecute, and they have done so in the past, even after giving their "blessings." If the law said that AW features had to be permanently changed, then almost ALL guns would be illegal. Plus, permanent is an objectively vague word anyway. Can't be defined. Take it or leave it. Look my friend. I am not arguing (although I didn't know that was banned), I am debating. Which is a process of point, counterpoint statements.
You have your opinions based on unsettled law. I have mine based on what the stock's seller says in his ads. I doubt he is lying. Anyone can do whatever they want. As for me, I didn't make it past 7 decades ( 4 in NY) by taking chances with legal issues, especially w/a LEO in the family, and I don't plan to take "internet advice" as gospel. When I originally posted I thought there might be some folks here who had gone the distance with the SAFE act. That is not the case. So, I'll stick with the "prudent man" approach. (Ask any estate manager what that is) How about I just say: "You are 100% right about everything ! " and stop posting on the subject ? Then you can say: "I won !" and stop beating a dead horse. OK ? |

But yes the thorsden stock is legal...and I agree - I am not arguing...just giving my opinions based on how the law is actually written...not on some NYSP or NYAG opinion (since they know very little when it comes to guns and gun laws). Basically, the NYAG can choose to prosecute you for anything. Even if you didn't break any laws. So I am just going to go by how the law is written. Pretty simple. |
