How many spacers are you using on your stock?

I've been considering the 1x4 MTAC or the 1.5x6 MTAC and I run no spacers on my my stock and was worried about the eye relief.

Thanks!

Ok so I have it all mounted up and the bolt handle leaves no room for me to operate it without pinching my hand or just putting half a hand on the bolt to operate it.

I have thought about getting an XS rail with med leupold quick detachable rings to give me more height and have a rear sight still, think it will work?

Quoted:
Well I made a huge mistake today, I went into Cabelas today. I love that place.

I bought a 2-7 Redfield scope, was marked $139.00 then has a $30.00 rebate, then was able to use my 10% military discount. Very bright scope, compact and fit my cheap budget, :-)

I mounted the scope with the supplied Ruger rings. Mounts nicely.

I did have to take off the scout mount off. The only problem I have is I don't like the four holes I now have in the barrel from there the mount was located.

Any ideas where to get some flush torx screws to fill the holes with?

Theoretically my setup leaves plenty of room for manipulating the bolt, but sometimes when I'm cycling it as quickly as I can off-hand (for follow-up shots on game, for example) I sometimes manage to skin my hand up good on the magnification ring of the scope. When I'm lying prone or shooting on the bench it never seems to happen (even when I cycle it quickly), but it only happens when I'm taking shots in the field and it leaves me with a bloody, raw spot on my hand to go dig around inside an animal carcass with.

Long story short, you should have enough room with the XS rail, but from time to time you may pinch or scrape your hand, just like any bolt gun with optics that sit sufficiently low on the receiver. I have had this happen with Winchester Model 70s, Remington 700s, Howa 1500s, Tikka T3s (which were the worst for whatever reason), and various Savages (except the rifles with oversized "target" bolt knobs).

Any of you guys know what size the screws are that hold the rail on are?  I had a set on backorder but after almost a month of them holding up a fairly big order I got tired of waiting for 4 friggin screws to become available.

I also discovered that the factory mag will not hold longer loads, specifically some 168gr Hornady HPBT match loading(2.872 OAL) my uncle has had really good results with and made me some of.  The AIM Mags can handle a smidge longer OAL, and it functions fine in the gun, it's the inner piece of sheet metal in the factory mag that holds the round up and wont allow more than 1 bullet max into the mag.

One thing I did to mine was used a silver sharpie to make the front sight pop.  Works great.

Do you have any better pictures of that? I'm interested in the brake and your stock almost looks greenish from that angle.

Stock is laminated green from the factory. That's how I bought it from my LGS.

That's the very first I've seen or heard of coming like that. I know there were some walnut stocked versions and variations of the black/gray laminate, but it looks like Ruger is now doing some green GSRs just like the green 10/22s and Guide Guns. Interesting. That PWS brake looks huge on there also, makes it even more unique looking.

Looks like a nylon Ching sling from thewilderness.com.  You can also buy leather Ching slings from Galco (which I have) or andysleather.com (what I would get if I were to do it over).

You are correct. If you like nylon, the Wilderness sling rocks. Want leather? Andy's.

For what purpose exactly? Not asking to be snide, just curious. I never got any muzzle flash shooting at dusk with it, only some occasional sparks from solid copper bullets. I ultimately decided I didn't want or need a flash hider on my rifle, so I removed it, but since I found the Ruger flash hider to work well for its intended purpose I could see no reason to spend money experimenting with any others. Of course, it's your rifle and your money and my opinion is just that. I will be adding a suppressor and QD brake to mine soon.

I have an AR 10 birdcage on mine. A bit shorter, and no slot on the bottom to kick up dust. I like it, personally.

Check out 7.62 tactical comp
I put one on my RGSR and it shoots great.  It even reduces the felt recoil a bit as advertised.  I'll post some pictures later today of my rig ( RGSR with burris 2x8 scout on LaRue SPR, with Accu-riser cheek rest and Griffin Armament comp.  I have not put a sling on it yet but just purchased one by Andy's Leathers.

ETA-11/26 photo finally added

Will be changing up my rifle configuration to a conventional mounted Leupold scope with receiver rings and different sling.   I spent 3 days hunting in northern NH where I walked with a pack more than I sat.  Although I can live with the EER scope it's not a favorite.  It was especially not too good in low late afternoon light.  The "ching- sling" I bought from Andy's Leathers, while a quality leather sling doesn't work for me when wearing a back pack.  As you can see in the photo, I've already taken the short strap off to make it workable but not IMHO useable for me.
So, I'm selling the scope and the sling...For what it's worth, the Burris Scout scope is one of the best EER scopes that I saw.  It's much better than the Nikon scout (the eye relief changes with magnification) and about the same as the Leupold Scout.  I went with the Burris because of the ballisti-plex reticle that give you some type of bullet drop ranging in the reticle.

My Scout.  I just put this optic on.  I saw the Redfield Counterstrike at the LGS and it looked decent.  Reviews in multiple places were really good, so I figured I would give it a try and see.  It sits a little higher than I anticipated.  It has a red or green dot and you can change the brightness.  There is a laser underneath, hence the reason it sits up higher.  I can't use the laser deer hunting, but do plan on using the red dot on it.

It looks like it could be used without the laser and base and would be about the perfect height.

I would consider it especially if you can't use the laser for hunting anyway.

http://OK guys I'm new here and this is my first post, but I am well known at http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?103706-Ruger-Gunsite-Carbine and have been the main push behind this thread for the last 3 years. It is over 600 replies so far and keeps plugging along when new people find out about the gun and how good they really are.

My gun is #159 of the first production run.,  I have set it up several different ways.

First was with a Leupold 1x5 VX3 in the Ruger Rings.  That was fine and I shot Long Range Silhouette with the gun mostly.

Currently the gun has an XS rail with the Peep in the rear and a Leupold VX-R 3x9 with Mil/Mil reticle mounted with Leupold QD rings. I also have a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot sight to mount to the gun with the scope off and if everything repeats I will be able to go back and forth with out having to rezero every time. I want to shoot the gun with the dot sight in local 3 gun comps. Most of you should already know the guns are very capable of hitting every single time at 600 yds so I shouldn't have to go into that too far. Once you have the drop figured for several distances like Silhouette distances of 200,300, 385, and 500 meters, it is a piece of cake and I can hit a man sized target every single time off a rest at 600 yards. Frankly anybody else should be able to as well since it really ain't that hard to do.

The gun has nearly 1000 rounds thru it by this time and the accuracy is superb at 7/8" for 5 shots at 100yds.  My standard .308 load is 45.0 gr of IMR 4895 over a 147gr FMJBT recycled M80 ball bullet. at about 2600 fps.  I have several groups this size shot on different days so it's not a fluke.

I have no idea how to post pics on this format of a website.

Would appreciate any guidance offered in that respect as I am a picture intensive guy.  .  This site is completely different than any other site I normally use. and posting pics is not immediately obvious.  I know where the button is but I don't have my pics in URL's so it is useless.
