Damn nice looking 1911. You got to be feeling good about doing all that work yourself.

Awesomest thread EVAR!

I've been thinking about doing a build that would eventually serve as a CCW pistol.  I was thinking of doing a Commander or Officer in 9mm......

Gonna have got get in gear and do it now that I know it can be done by a dremel jockey

sorry about the technical difficulties with the arfcom media server. I can re-up them, but it will take some time to change them over to a place like photobucket. As there is about 120+ pics.

I think Its broke cuz I downgraded my membership and lost the media server. So, I wont be able to re-up them until this weekend. Sorry, be patient.

I came very late to this thread.  Appreciate the write up, but I can't see any of the pictures.  All I get is ARFCOM logo on black screen.

Any help?  Is it me and my computer settings?

Thanks.

Reason for the radius in the firing pin hole?

For reliability and safety. If that edge is sharp, it can cut into a primer when the round loads.

Makes sense.

Great job by the way, and thanks for taking the time to make this thread.

I would like to tackle one of these for myself, one day.

I like the DIY style of this build.  I just purchased a recon government frame from Fosters (50% off). Thanks for the write up.

EXCELLENT

I was about to start raisin hell because I haven't seen any pistols being made, now I can rest calmly.

Oh, and I took mine out and shot a mag, 25 yards...all holes in a 3" pattern. Shot damn nice.

yup, called and talked to someone at brownells - turns out a caspain fits a caspian - who would have thunk it.

but the Brown has a higher "ride", better for recoil and pointing

Well Where to begin
Caspian recon frame and Novak/Bomar cut slide, Kart NM barreland bushing, Ed Brown grip safety, ed brown trigger parts, vz grips, caspian sights.  I raised the grip about as much as I felt comfortable with.

I fit the grip safety to the frame which was not cut yet using the brown jig, fit the Kart ez fit barrel, which btw is very easy to fit, fit the slide to frame and lapped (smooth as glass), contoured and polished the feed ramp, recessed the slide pin hole on the right side, dehorned the entire frame and slide which suprisingly had a lot of horns, beveled the bottom edge of slide, radiased the mag well.

Home parkerized using the AA battery method(chich works really well), duracoated black
This is absolutley the frist 1911 I have built or even modified for that matter, or even done anything to, I just jumped in head first.  I have shot it just to function test it but I have not shot it for accuracy yet.

range report.  I went to the range today and shot the new pistola.  Shot really, it will definatly shoot better than I can.  The flyer in the picture was my fault.  Trigger pull is around 4 pounds , but very crisp and clean.  15 yards supported, 10 rounds.  Overall I was very impressed with the accuracy and the function.  I had no problems with extraction or feeding, really ran great.  The  best thing...I had two people come up to me and ask who built my 1911, with a big grin on my face I said "I did".

no reason, other than this is what I had on hand.  And you cant DIY install Tritium with a brass punch

I've done it before.  It's a bitch but it's definitely possible.  Why do you say you can't?

Do you know of a good sight tool to use for novak sights?

BTW very nice build, very ingenious improvisations.  The American Pistolsmiths Guild ought to recognize your hard work and attention to detail.

Looks very nice Gaspains, I'm working on my build a bit at a time (like 6 months).  Ordered a Double Star railed frame and most parts from Brownells with a Cylinder and Slide sear kit.  For the slide I would like to use my old Michagian Armament Systems slide that is Metalified and MagnaPorted (that or my Colt .22LR conversion or a WWII Ithaca slide).  Only 5 more months before I can tackle it again.
