Damn nice looking 1911. You got to be feeling good about doing all that work yourself.

Awesomest thread EVAR!
I've been thinking about doing a build that would eventually serve as a CCW pistol. I was thinking of doing a Commander or Officer in 9mm...... Gonna have got get in gear and do it now that I know it can be done by a dremel jockey |
Pictures still aren't working. Hopefully they will soon, so i can get a look at this thing.
Gaspain, can you re-upload the pics? Would really like to see them.
sorry about the technical difficulties with the arfcom media server. I can re-up them, but it will take some time to change them over to a place like photobucket. As there is about 120+ pics.
I think Its broke cuz I downgraded my membership and lost the media server. So, I wont be able to re-up them until this weekend. Sorry, be patient.

I came very late to this thread. Appreciate the write up, but I can't see any of the pictures. All I get is ARFCOM logo on black screen.
Any help? Is it me and my computer settings? Thanks. |
That is one beautiful pistol. I appreciate you taking the time to fix the photos.

Makes sense.
Great job by the way, and thanks for taking the time to make this thread. I would like to tackle one of these for myself, one day. |
I like the DIY style of this build. I just purchased a recon government frame from Fosters (50% off). Thanks for the write up.

Just went through and reread this thread. Awesome job. I would like to try building one someday.

Really enjoyed reading all 11 pages of this thread. Great job OP!

Gaspain - not going to jack your thread, but yours inspired me to finally dig out my parts kits and start my twin MEUSOC build.

Atwell Tactical MOS2111 MEUSOC build EXCELLENT I was about to start raisin hell because I haven't seen any pistols being made, now I can rest calmly. Oh, and I took mine out and shot a mag, 25 yards...all holes in a 3" pattern. Shot damn nice. |
This was AWESOME and great job! I plan on building 2 1911's and giving them to my boys when they are older. I got some cool ideas for engraving the slides too

Gaspain -
Moving right along in my builds - only 1-2 minor problems so far. Atwell Tactical/MOS2111 Dual Meusoc build |

yup, called and talked to someone at brownells - turns out a caspain fits a caspian - who would have thunk it.
but the Brown has a higher "ride", better for recoil and pointing
MOS21111, FYI - when I click on your link, a database error pops up.

What mainspring housing did you use for this build? I like the lanyard loop mainspring housing concept.

Well Where to begin Caspian recon frame and Novak/Bomar cut slide, Kart NM barreland bushing, Ed Brown grip safety, ed brown trigger parts, vz grips, caspian sights. I raised the grip about as much as I felt comfortable with. I fit the grip safety to the frame which was not cut yet using the brown jig, fit the Kart ez fit barrel, which btw is very easy to fit, fit the slide to frame and lapped (smooth as glass), contoured and polished the feed ramp, recessed the slide pin hole on the right side, dehorned the entire frame and slide which suprisingly had a lot of horns, beveled the bottom edge of slide, radiased the mag well. Home parkerized using the AA battery method(chich works really well), duracoated black This is absolutley the frist 1911 I have built or even modified for that matter, or even done anything to, I just jumped in head first. I have shot it just to function test it but I have not shot it for accuracy yet. |

you are my hero! I have a little more "smithing" tools ... but since caspian was running such a good deal if you ordered at shot show... I'm in for a build! :)

What was your reason to not use night sights? no reason, other than this is what I had on hand. And you cant DIY install Tritium with a brass punch I've done it before. It's a bitch but it's definitely possible. Why do you say you can't? Do you know of a good sight tool to use for novak sights? BTW very nice build, very ingenious improvisations. The American Pistolsmiths Guild ought to recognize your hard work and attention to detail. |

In an effort to unclutter the top of the forum this and several others
are being untacked. however they've been toggled so as not to slip into the archeive. SGB |

Looks very nice Gaspains, I'm working on my build a bit at a time (like 6 months). Ordered a Double Star railed frame and most parts from Brownells with a Cylinder and Slide sear kit. For the slide I would like to use my old Michagian Armament Systems slide that is Metalified and MagnaPorted (that or my Colt .22LR conversion or a WWII Ithaca slide). Only 5 more months before I can tackle it again.
