For the past 6 months I've been surfing a good thread in militaryphotos.net on the Ukrainian conflict and found a few interesting ones. In addition to the early days when the Russian VDV occupied various places in Eastern Ukraine and the Crimea where they displayed Kashtan, Obzor and 1P29 the thread now has pics from the ongoing conflict in the east and there are some interesting optics in use. It looks like the majority of military issue weapons don't have optics though there are a few, and private forces appear to be using them more often.

I'd ask us to remember this is a technical forum and to keep the politics out of the discussion.

I just bought one of these and coincidentally they appeared in the Ukraine. HoloSun red dot

I think this is PKA original but I'm not 100% sure. Video was very blurry

Looks like an Aimpoint (and possibly thermal on the PK on the floor)

Oldies but goodies, 1PN58 and 1PN34

PSO or POSP 4x24

Kobra, looks like EKP-1S-03 without a sunshade

Interesting, looks like a Vepr 54R with 8x42 POSP

Guy with a lot of rails but no optic that I can see. This is a BP02 rail though

PKA Weaver (I think these particular photos are staged, but this group is operating in the Ukraine right now)

Older pics but looks like Russian VDV Airborne with 1PN93 Night Vision. On NPZ's website these are visually different but all seem to be labelled 1PN93 though I could be wrong

Thermal on an SVD Correction: DigiSight N750

When does he realize his H-1 is mounted backwards?

One guy in the first picture seems to have a vert grip mounted on the left side rail...
I wonder if this is for the "fire sideways over your head" method of cover/suppressing fire...

Also, this reminds me of a link The Firearm Blog posted about the same thing; I laughed because there were quite a few errors in optical identification and figured you'd do them one better Zen.

Here are the links:

Hard to tell, but could the "lots of rails" guy be rocking an Obzor? Due to the interference of his sling it's a bit difficult to tell, but the configuration of the side mount looks very similar.

That VEPR magazine looks to be in 7.62x39. Seems a bit small, with no hint of ribs.

Hmmm...good observation. I assumed it was 54R in part because I don't have that model of Vepr and in part because of the 8x42. Seems like he really wants to be a DMR guy with that setup and 54R is the norm for that role over x39.

Not in this case, definitely BP02. Obzor has a very different look to it especially from different angles. It also has a different screw pattern for the base ( two pairs of horizontal screws on Obzor vs two pairs of vertical screws for the older PSO and MTK83 mount) and is grey vs black

Now I like this one.  I wonder what mount that is, but doesn't appear to be a terrible setup.  Mosins are capable rifles.
