Looking for suggestions on a decent barrel for a budget build. Would like to keep it below $150, but also want the best I can get for my money. Looking for a Ferrari for the price of a Ford.
I'm open to 14.5" or 16", would prefer chrome lined or stainless but not dead set on it, must be mid length with M4 feed ramps.
Gun will be used for range shooting and the unlikely home defense situation. I'd like it to be fairly accurate out to 200 yards, doubt I do much shooting beyond that and it's not like I'm competing.  Fire the suggestions at me.

This is what I'm eyeballing right now.

Check out FAXON barrels at Right to Bear Arms, a sponsor here I believe.  Excellent customer service and super fast shipping.  They have 10% off at the moment on FAXON barrels.  I used the FAXON Pencil profile with QPQ, 4150.  They have the same barrel in Stainless QPQ, a few bucks more.  With 10% off, the barrel I purchased was 150 bucks.  It's super light weight and accurate as any I've shot.

+1 for Faxon. I've been doing countless amounts of research and after watching numerous reviews, I'll be purchasing one for my new build. Customer service is great from what I read and they are active contributors to this forum. Any issues and they'll take it back

What grain do you plan on shooting ???
If you plan on sticking with lighter grain then I would get the Green Mountain 16" Middy Chrome lined with 1/8 twist .. The problem is that is when you use a Middy gas system the barrel selection gets kind of thin compared to the Carbine system..

Green Mountain middy, it rocks and its inexpensive.

Schuyler has Ballistics Advantage 16in barrels for $95 both in mid and carbine length gas.  They are QPQ treated.  Some believe this to be better than chrome lined because it's a treatment and not a coating.  The BA barrels get great reviews.

What I never read that before ??? I do know that coating and treatments do help the barrels compared to not coated or treated ..  What I heard is that chrome lined gives you the best barrel life but sacrifices accuracy cause of the process but the other processes gives you better accuracy but less barrel life with throat erosion..

Another vote for Ballistic Advantage/Aero Precision. Get on the Ballistic email list and get their daily deals. I just waited until the exact barrel I wanted came on sale and snagged it. I'm running 4 of their barrels in various configurations/calibers and they are all great. I will probably only buy Larue or Ballistic barrels from now on.

I just put a Green Mountain 16" carbine on my rifle and could not be happier. From the way it was shipped (Packed like it was a piece of crystal) to putting it on my rifle everything went together without a problem. Used a Yankee Hill clamp on gas block and it fit perfect. I know the rifle will shoot better than i can. Very pleased with this product.

I am personally looking at this one. Figured for the money it's worth a try on a budget build. https://www.primaryarms.com/Radical_Firearms_16_Mid_Length_Barrel_1_7_Twist_p/rf1617m.htm

I would take the $95 BA barrel from Schuyler over that Radical barrel any day.  Even if that Radical barrel was $65, I would still choose the $95 BA barrel.

Why is that? I've read some issues with thier actual firearms but nothing bad about thier barrels. Do you have experience with it or just jumping on the bandwagon?

Good luck finding similar threads about Ballistic Advantage. If you decide to go Radical, I hope it works out for you, but why spend more money on a crapshoot?

The question has already been answered but I will respond to your question directed at me.

I do not have any personal experience with Radical but have read many threads about issues with their barrels and poor customer service in regards to the warranty work, specifically the extensions coming off.  I do own four of the BA barrels in different calibers, lengths and gas systems and they are all great barrels.  I recommend what I have used/ use that works for me.  On occasion, I will warn against using a product that has a bad reputation that I may not have personal experience with but it must be multiple complaints not just 1-2 people that had issues or could not figure out how to make it work correctly.
