Ok dude when you start going to a store on Wednesday and they show 4 in stock in the hand scanner, tell you they don't have it.  Go back Thursday and Friday same story.  Get there at 8:30 on Saturday and you are too late the guy tells you he sold the last 4 boxes this morning.  Yea somebody was saving it for their buddy that couldnt get there until saturday.  The link showed OOS within the hour of my leaving the store.  You can explain or make excuses all you want, Some, probably not all, but Some are deliberately screwing with the inventory.  FACT!

I'm positive its in inventory before it gets off the truck. In stock means the truck could be sitting on the dock as well as on shelf.
The trucks will sit there all day so quit complaining.
So all you people whining to Walmart employees.....most of them are telling you the truth.

Quit acting like babies! You make the rest of us look bad!

For your information I scored 12 boxes at 3 stores.......didn't talk to anyone.....and on top of that used self checkout. I did my homework...........do yours!

Uhhh  I thought it was Walmarts policy that you could NOT take ammo through the self checkout - it has to be purchased at the SG counter.

I just called a nearby WalMart for the first time since all this began and was told they had 5 twenty round boxes off Federal Xm193, my favorite.  I went and bought them all (after 6pm) and was surprised when the clerk told me they had been there all day. I may have to start checking more often.

Very interesting.   I went today to the wally world saw something i wanted in stock and online I pulled the UPC showed, it to an "associate Manager" ,and he put it into a little handheld device that told him he had 32 cans of 420rd xm855 IN STOCK.   He told me he's had a couple people come in asking about it, but that to the best of his knowledge, he's hasn't seen this in stock recently.     So i asked him, isn't he concerned that his live inventory system shows that he is missing aprox.  $7000 in inventory?    He told me "well perhaps it got diverted to a different store", So its a computer error,    i asked.   He responded, probably.    I had to leave before I lost my S#%^T.     i have no idea if this is legit (I am highly suspicious though) or not but i for one am getting terribly frustrated lately, this should be loosening up soon right?!    Stll shows in stock.    Bastards.

What you might have done is suggested that you and he go to his office and call the 800 number posted here and let corporate see whatzup with $7000 missing inventory.

He might have started singing a different tune.

Real quick!

Why not go back in tomorrow, show him your phone with the 800 WALMART CORPORATE number in your phone speed dial, and see what happens with a manager who doesn't seem overly concerned with $7000 inventory missing from his store.

Was this at the Onalaska store? I and another arfcom member were there looking for it yesterday...

I had a pretty good day, 10 boxes of the Federal 223 value packs at 3 different stores. Last one was really great, online showed up about 6pm drove 30 minutes and they offered to look out back then returned several minutes later with it.

You don't need the UPC to add ammo to the Walmart phone app any more.  Just like the web search is working again - so is the search field in the phone app.  Just search for 223 and add stuff to your list.

Where's the option to add items to a list? It lets me search for the ammo, but I don't see anywhere that you can save the item to come back to it easy later

Ok question for the experts...earlier today my walmart showed no .223 now I checked and it shows Tula .223 in stock I assume that must mean a truck came in so when should I go look - tonight or tomorrow morning? IE. I wonder if its even off the truck yet?

re: question for the experts.  Call the store and find out when they put it out, that is the best method.  Although I can tell you some stores will tell you they put it out in the morning - only to find someone put it out the night before.  My store religiously puts it out in the am.  Other stores put it out shortly after the truck arrives.

Good luck.

Thanks guys I did call and they said they knew nothing about it but without my asking said they would run back and check which i was surprised at. They said nothing was put out yet and that the stock guys will probably put it out sometime during the night if it came in like it shows. Like I said my store has been very good about putting ammo out so I will stop in tomorrow - turns out they are showing 100rd .223 boxes in as well.

I got lucky beginning of this month and they were stocking the shelves with .50rd boxes of Remington .223 and had one 420rd ammo can of .223 - I settled for just a 50rd box as I have a small stock. I am sorry to hear all the horror stories, don't get me wrong the shelves are usually empty at my walmart but they are nice at mine so guess I am lucky I live in the south.

I've lurked too long. The 5 Wally's by me say they won't sell before 7am (must think I'm buying beer) but that said I bought 300rds @ 6:18am Fri. at one store and was made to wait until 7:00 at a store 10 miles away for another 300rds. You must pay @ the SG counter when you purchase (at least around here). 3 box limit @ all stores. The web links are acurate as to in stock. If the stock shows up @ night and you call they say out of stock unless you ask to have them check the UPC code and then I'm told it's not on the shelf and to show up @ 7:00am. Thanks to this site I've amassed 900 rds this week alone, but being retired I've got all day to get there and no place to go. You guys rock (except the guy that did ammo self checkout @ all them WM's which I call bs).  Good Luck to all in the great ammo hunt 2013.

How do you check the stock of the ammo online, as in the numerical amount of boxes? Or is this only possible when they scan the code in the store?

You can only see if it's "in stock" "limited stock", or "out of stock" online. If it says "in stock"  or "limited stock", call the store and ask them to run the UPC, which is on the walmart webpage for whatever ammo you are looking at. Dont ask for the sporting goods department, just ask whoever answers the phone. In my experience, some people who answer can do it, while others transfer you to a manager. Most likely, whoever answers is not in sporting goods and if there is any foul play going on (employees hiding ammo for themselves) they wont know about it and cover for them. I usually dont tell even tell them the UPC is ammo, i just say " hi, I saw you have a product listed as "in stock" online and I was wondering if you could check if you have it or not. I have the UPC right here." If they say they have it, you better get in your car, cause it wont be there long.

On another note, I had some great success tonight. Around 11 PM, I saw a few local walmarts had the 45 AUTO Winchester White Box QTY 50, so I hopped in the truck and headed to the closest one. I called on my way to make sure they actually had it, which they did. I got there and I couldn't believe my eyes. They had the new BrassMaxx .223 in 50 round boxes. They also had BrassMaxx in .40 and .45. Long story short, the sales associate let me buy 3 boxes of the .223 BrassMaxx ($16.97 EACH), 3 boxes of .45 auto WWB ($20.87 EACH), and 3 boxes of .40 BrassMaxx ($19.97 EACH). I was ecstatic!!! So since another local walmart had gotten in the WWB 45 auto tonight, I headed that way, thinking maybe they had gotten the BrassMaxx .223 as well. Sure enough, i got there and it was sitting on a pallet, about to be put on the shelves. One of the stock guys took me to the front register with the the partially filled box containing 9 50 round boxes. He knew there was a QTY limit but he said "a sale is a sale!" The front register clerk said they were only supposed to sell 3 boxes, but the stock guy repeated himself saying "a sale is a sale!" The lady shrugged her shoulders and said "okay..."

Afterwards, I tried to find this BrassMaxx stuff on Walmart.com using the UPC but since they just started carrying it, I don't think its in the system yet. Ill post a pic of the walmart tag.

So here it is...all in a night's work!

I had the same experience,

I got my AR-15 for Christmas and have not been able to shoot it, I can not find any .223/5.56 anywhere.
Our Walmart's do not sell ammo before 7am and after 10pm so I have been stopping in every morning before work at 6:55am for 2 months
and zero ammo, even thought the on-line website will show in stock.. it Sucks, Thinking about selling the AR and getting something that has ammo available.

You need to go talk to the store manager.  As is the case is many other WalMart stores, the employees are taking all the .223 ammo.

Checked Walmart on-line late last night and saw where .223, .45ACP and 9mm was In Stock which meant a truck had come in.  They bring out the ammo when SG clerk comes in at 7AM.  I was second in line at 6:30.  First guy wanted .22lr but none came in so he settled for 9mm.  I took 2 100 rd boxes of .223 and a box of 100 rd .45.  Would've taken 3 boxes of .223 but got a new XDS at gun show on Saturday and it needs to be fed.

That''s a very encouraging report.  Thanks for the pics!  That new Brass Maxx from what I have read is basically Fiocchi green box for 13 bucks cheaper per 50 (Usually 29.95 at Cabelas when available LOL)  It's even cheaper than the Federal bulk 100's.  I hope it makes its way to New England sometime soon!

I just stoped my my local wally world and they had somthing for just about every cal of ammo.  Lots of PDX1 for pistol and rifle, winchester white box in 50 and value packs.  I just grabed 3 of the .223 federal value pack for $34.50, and they had about 8 more packs behind it.  I havent been there for months and the guy said things are starting to slow down and invintory is picking up.

Picked up 2 of the federal 100 round .223 boxes last Wednesday and 3 more today at my local Walmart (Fort Worth Beach St location).

One of the night stockers had left the box at the counter so when the ammo lady came around to say they didn't get any in last night, I listed pointed to the case on the floor and said, "I'll just take these then."

The guy behind me bought the last box out of the case.

They did have a case of the 100 round Winchester white box 9mm left when I was done.

lets hope so,I would like to try out my rifle at the range this year...

I find some stuff on line but I just refuse to pay .80 -1.00 per round. that's insane.

Most times I check and find something showing in stock, the "Last updated" date is a week ago.

I saw a couple that said OUT OF STOCK and the date was yesterday.  Does that mean the status changed yesterday or does the system poll the inventory regularly?

Walmart's inventory is live, there are no updates.

Also, I don't know if this helps anyone... but just something I've picked up during my Walmart hunts...

If the website shows it as "Limited Stock" then the store has less than 5 boxes of that UPC.  If it shows "In Stock" then they have 5 or more.

If you're looking for the Federal 100 round .223 like I have been, they come in cases of 4 and I have yet to see Walmart get incomplete cases in (at least in the Fort Worth/Arlington area).  So if you check the link online around 10PM and its showing limited, they just got one of those cases in.  And some stores have been getting 2 cases, so 8 of the 100 round boxes.

Also, Winchester 100 rd 9mm has been coming 8 boxes to a case.

Some of the Walmart stores have a locked back room just for ammo too.  I found that out when the Rufe Snow store got some in but the sporting goods guy couldn't get it out till 8 AM when the manager came in to unlock it.

I checked at 12:30p today and the Alexandria store showed OUT OF STOCK..

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd22/2k05gt/store-out_zps33b30750.jpg

While out at lunch I figured I would drive by and pop in the check anyway..

Low and behold there were 4 boxes of Federal 100 round boxes for 34.97,
I could not hold back my excitement and yelled "yesss" the walmart employee said "you must have been looking for a while"
I nodded. So I am up at the counter ready to pay and another person walked up and asked about .223, she pointed at me
and said he got 3 boxes and there is one left. He seemed very disappointed and explained that he needed two boxes.
me being the nice guy that I am said that he could have one of mine.  So I made his day. At lease I got 200 rounds for 73.43 with tax

This was at 2:45pm and the listing says it was updated at 11:am so I really don't trust the walmart online status

Stopped by one of the local stores today. Lots of 100 round WWB packs of 9mm and .40 (165 gr.) and a bunch of Winchester military buckshot. Some Tula 7.62x39 and .223 as well. Wasn't worth the wait to get someone back there and unlock the cabinet. Someone else will be happy though.

Hey, Thanks that is helpful, I wondered what the limited stock meant.

I really would like to find the 420 round can of 5.56.
Walmart does not carry much 5.56 so picking up one of those would be great.

That says it was updated yesterday at 11am (the 24th), so they probably got it in last night, but for some reason the online inventory didn't update.

It's been posted over and over that the Last Updated date is not valid.  Ignore it.

Just went to my local Walmart. Website had "Limited Stock" on Federal .223 100 packs. So I get there, to an empty ammo case, and ask the SG lady. She says "oh if it's that internet stuff, it's not accurate." Now, is she being lazy? Does she already know because I'm the tenth pathetic asshole to ask her in the last 5 mins? Does she know because she has the last 5 boxes stashed in her locker in the back? Is there anyway for Walmart to keep employees from stashing ammo before it gets out to the floor?

I drove around to three walmarts today. All three  showed some 223 in stock.  None had any on the shelf , I showed the store clerk the ``I n Stock `` on my phone and he said we don`t have any and  should have called first.  I called yesterday and they said it was in back and would be stocked today. The guy was a jerk .    So I just wasted two hours of my time and $10 worth of gas..   And I am sure it was somewhere in the store............ saved back so they could buy it and resell at a higher price..    I just want to shoot my rifle.....

For you guys just hoping to find it on the shelf or hoping the clerks will go look for it out of good faith need to be more persistent.  A lot of these guys dont give a shit about you wanting ammo.  You need to ask them to go look in the back, and if they refuse, get a manager.  The UPC will show it in stock and the number of boxes.  I dont mind making these people actually do their job.  Dont let them be the ones that push you around.  The customer is always right.  I scored 400 rounds out being persistent and a bit hard headed.
