Seems they would want to keep him away from here though based on his reputation. Their site, their call.

BOT... Got my A1 profile 80% lower from PRI. Looks correct and doesn't appear to be a re-profiled A2 lower. Black anodizing is so dark my potato iphone can't take a good pic. Working with braceman to have it engraved like a '75 era M16A1. Going Mod H, the obsession begins. Expect a year for this build to be completed from snooter (AEM5) to pooter (poopy brown SOPMOD).

Gotta do it yourself, or, wait and see if PRI releases a Gen I repro. There has been a rumor about through back channels that it could happen.

OR

There's a gent on Calguns and the FB group that basically scratch built one. It's not perfect, and is a PITA to do, but it looks damn good. Basically found some CF tubes of the exact diameter/thickness needed, we gave him measurements of our actual issued SPRs, and he went from there. Use some generic replacement barrel nuts from Ebay and such, lathed a lock ring, epoxied the threaded section into the handguard just like the real ones, and added button head screws. It's not easy at all, but if someone were serious about doing it, I can say it has been done.

But, I get the vibe you're looking to send it elsewhere to get it done. The only other guy I think that could tackle the problem focuses on retro stuff mainly, John Thomas. For the PRI Retro Gen II reproduction, you'd need to:

1) Add button head screws, either 4x or 3x.

2) Add lower vent holes near the barrel nut

3) Enlarge and "move" the holes closer to the 3/9 oclock of the rail, basically like egging them out with a grinding stone then rounding them out

4) Turn down the locking ring to have a "stepped" look to it, and trim it back towards the barrel nut

5) Fabricate a ring with teeth to mimic the original barrel nut. Doing this alters the way you assemble the handguard and is going to take some doing to sort out, but it works

6) Fill the side rail mounting holes

7) Respray the handguard, either with black, or if you want to get adventurous, KG Gun Kote in the FDE/Tan color and then bake it so it comes out almost orange/pinkish.

Never understood that kind of "policy". It'd be like letting Ted Bundy run a daycare in CA because "well, he didn't break any laws here".

BOT... Who does everyone order their AEM5s through? Direct from AE or through someone else?

I got my first through Capital Armory, second through Tarheel State Firearms. Both great companies. Presample Depot is good too but is currently out of stock.

Without 2+ pounds of scope and bipod this actually feels pretty light. Replacing that Vortex so that's my next big purchase.

I got my AEM5 from Presample Depot. They had the best price I could find for a knurled can. HERE is a link. Looks like they're out of stock right now, but they seem to get them quickly. @ecprevatte can give you a time frame probably.

I spend all my money on gun parts so I may have cut a few corners on investing in a shooting mat haha.

Thanks for the reply. Some of that sounds like it's above my skill level and I don't have the time to work on something that involved. Guess I'll email PRI and ask if
they plan on doing a Gen 1. Maybe if enough of us bug them they will turn some out.

So, something that’s been sort of bugging me about my Mk12 clone was the barrel.

I’ve been using a 20” Colt HBAR for the longest time, and since it produced great groups, I didn’t want to jinx it by chopping it to the clone correct length.  I suppose I could have just bought the clone correct barrel, but then I’d have a Colt HBAR that would need a home.

A buddy of mine gave me an Olympic Arms 20” HBAR about a year ago and it was sitting my A4 clone.

Colt HBAR on top, Olympic barrel on the bottom.

I decided to bring the Olympic barrel to the shop and have two inches chopped off.  I then threw the Colt HBAR into an A4 clone build:

Anyway, I just got the barrel back and slapped it all back together:

There wasn’t any Parkerizing under the Olympic FSB, so I ended up just giving it a quick spurt of Tamiya flat black later on.

Mounted with a crush washer.

Looks a lot better (minus the different color black stripe around the barrel)

With the fake can, for photos only:

Before:

After:

I think it looks a lot better with the correct length barrel.

Yes it would work. In some cases the M1 turrets have been seen in the wild. It is also listed on page 1 under the "in the wild " paragraph. I'd recommend you go read that to help decide if thats the route you want to go.

Leupold will change out the turrets for $225 shipped. I just had it done with one of my scopes I picked up for a sweet deal.

They told me $260 plus something like 6 weeks to get it back. But at that price it still puts it at a decent buy.

As mentioned in the Holland thread, my cheap flash shit the bed last night before I could take a better pic than this, it has crap shadows and the packing tape I used for the case label reflected really bad. It looks like ass but this will have to hold you thirsty Clone THOTS off for a bit.

Upgraded to Mk4 glass with the older style illum housing, now I need a knurled AEM5, Hydramatic markings, and an Accuracy Speaks trigger to make this fucker 100% to the armory pic I worked off of:

I sent my friend a txt (jokingly) telling him I found him some "inferior glass" (his words) for his Mod 0 last night. I woke up to a reply telling me to get it for him. I was shocked because he poopoo's old Leupold glass compared to cheaper options available these days. I hopped on to tell the guy I'd take it (wasn't sure if you were going to pounce or not) and saw someone else snagged it.

Upgraded to Mk4 glass with the older style illum housing, now I need a knurled AEM5, Hydramatic markings, and an Accuracy Speaks trigger to make this fucker 100% to the armory pic I worked off of:

I still occasionally want an ACE, but then talk myself out of it.

You've chosen wisely.  I spent an absurd amount to get one, used it for a week, hated it, and went back to the SOPMOD.

I still want one just for those times where I'm feeling spicy and want to change things up.

So I still have A LOT of work to do on these. Small details and such.

Mount scopes on 3 uppers....
Change out lowers to A1's..
Swap some FSGB's...
Move some rails around....
I'm trying to be as historically accurate as I can on these but something is always missing still.
I can provide details of parts and historical info if anyone cares later.
Oh and.....@Infidel4life11 and @Dobs013

I've been told I'm a man of focus......yes they are. Lol.

Honestly, I'm not really sure how I got here. Some would say the EE moved in with me. Others would say that I worked my ass off for everything I have and others would say I'm broke. Everyone is right....

ETA: oh and Ramen is totally worth it. They have more flavors these days.

So somewhere in the world some crazy dudes were talking and one says to the other "You know what would be the most bad ass shit ever? If someone were to acquire like 5 MK12s."

Then @5pt56 was like "Say no more FAM"

I have my sources. The closeups I have you can't see a KAC or Geissele "G", plus someone with eyes on verified it was the AS.

Also remember that in Black Rifle II it called out that both KAC and Accuracy Speaks FA Match triggers were tested. It would seem that when the Hollands were built they either reused some of the AS triggers or even bought a few more, because there had been issues with the KACs.

Closer

Technically 7. The 8th you're referring to which is the complete rifle at the front of the table is the NSW Recce. It is a 16.1 inch barrel, 1-8 Douglas. Needs NF rings or mount still.

The real problem is I have an OG FSGB on a Gen III handguard and ARMS SPR top rail. I think I need to move that FSGB to the FDE upper that's sitting on the right side of the ground pic. And then put a PRI top rail on it which kills me a little inside to do but can't find the right top rail to match that generation upper.
