Yes with M4 Oval handguards.  No, with CAR handguards as they predate the M4 which has always had the side sling swivel under FSB.

CAR15 handguards here.  CAR15 on M16A1 lower belong to SEAL Tm 2 in Scotland 89'

No, the M4 and M4A1 were type classified in Oct 1994, IIRC.  I got my M4A1 with oval handguards, detachable carrying handle, 14.5" bbl with A2 FH, Colt N1 stock and side sling swivel in Apr 95' as I caught up to my ODA  at NTC.  When I left for the O&I course in Jan 95', we still had our M16A2s.  5th SFGA got them in Feb-Mar 95'.

M4A1 in Jordan Aug 95'.  Sling attached to side sling swivel.

What we have today is M4s being converted to M4A1 MWS standard.  Which is basically an SOPMOD 1 gun with 14.5" SOCOM bbl

Tell her that you’re glad she understands, because you were trying to wife-clone Margot Robbie, but you ended up with “in the wild”

So I’m supposed to drill out the pin on the original sling swivel since I’m using the side sling mount?

Kick! My clone of my Iraq rifle. Apart from a third pin, pinned flash hider, and an N1 stock, that’s what I hauled around upon arriving at the unit to when I turned it back in after getting off the plane at Ft. Benning before reuniting with the family. I would have bought that old rifle (W0105xx with a barrel from the mid-90s) in a heartbeat of they’d let me.
