Decided to go to a RDS on this carbine, but Aimpoints are too mainstream.

Mission First Tactical React Short Vertical Forend Grip AR-15 Polymer.  I have one.  Nice shape but maybe a little thinner than the Magpul offering.

Here's another picture of that carbine in late daylight with fill-in flash, then enhanced light post processing in the computer.

Some details that I didn't mention on my first post:

The covers on the Knight's Armament M4 RAS handguard rail, the top rail covered by LaRue Tactical Index-Clips, side rails covers are Knight's Armament and lower rail are Magpul XTM enhanced (rough texture).

Ambi charging handle is BCM Gunfighter Mod 4X4 current gen ambi medium latch.

The selector is Colt ambi reversible (with cage code marks on the short right lever).

The stock rubber buttpad is made for this Vltor original modstock and shown as is will mostly fall down, it needs to be strapped securely with nylon or metal wire.

A clone of the rifle I carried in Iraq sans the M203. Built on a Palmetto M4 Carbine lower, Colt T marked upper, CMMG 14.7” barrel with a p&w fh. Colt CAR15 4 position buttstock, Knights Armament RAS, a TA31 RCO M4 in place of the TA31F I was issued, and I added a Matech buis even though my issued one didn’t have a buis.

I rarely see black PEQs in your photos. Do you run into them often? If so, which units’ rifles are outfitted with black PEQs?

Thank you sir and Merry Christmas.

All of ours were FDE. Except the DBAL2 that was a weird gray color.

Parts bin build that is basically a clone of the configuration I would have built circa 2006 when I got into ARs if I could have afforded it back then.

-BCM upper
-BCM 14.5" M4 barrel with P/W YHM Phantom Comp/Brake (came with the upper - will probably swap for an A2X at some point)
-Toolcraft NiB BCG
-Larue 7" rail
-TA31 RCO with Kram spacer
-KAC micro BUIS (need to swap it for a Magpul PRO to fit under the Kram)
-Spikes stripped lower with SOLGW LPK and mil-spec FCG
-B5 CAR stock and Ergo grip
-Surefire M340 PRO

Interesting.  A2s and RAS handguards are all that I've seen associated until now,  thanks CD.

Google search shows that they secured a sizeable contract for bbls in '17.

Did this thread die? I'm going to ask my question anyhow and hope for an answer. Can anyone tell me about the earlier dd m4a1 ris ii? In particular, we're they fielded and if so by whom mainly? And if so, would it have been more common to find them paired with government profiled barreled or socom profiled barrels? Here is a pic of the version I am referring to. The notable difference is the presence of vent holes in the forward lower part of the rail. I believe they may have changed the design due to bends in the lower portion as a result of weakness from not enough material. That, or they were too hot for holding with vents in that location. (That last part was a thought I just had).

Is a FSB side sling mount appropriate for a 14.5” m4 carbine with CAR handguards instead of a RAS rail?
Seems I only see the side sling mount in conjunction with a RAS

Yes. I had one issued to me like that in Bosnia in 2000. Just looked at a picture from then and it has one.
