I would second that. I've never had a problem (even bridging a rail with them) but I can see the inherent flaw in their design. Highly recommend the LaRue SPR-E

Technically still a A4, but you could call it an A5, recently installed a H6 buffer from Damage Industries.

My first ar15, assembled from a parts bin in a Pawn shop outside Fort Stewart years ago.  Intentional clone of a A4, FN barrel.  Used to wear an Acog.

I've read/heard from a couple of sources that the M16A4 PIP or M16A5 has been canned and it was decided to just give the infantry M4s.

But I am not in any more, I have no clue what goes on in the heads of the higher ups.

You have heard correctly the A4PIP was put on hold  because of cost benefit analysis and the fact the Marine Corps has over 80k M4s it can redistribute to cover all infantry and infantry like battalions in the force

I wouldnt be surprised if that was truth. Compact seems to be the way things have been heading for a while in all variants of the m16/m4 family. Not to mention funds...

Ron, I just looked it up. This ugly ass "A5" was vltor's entrant in the PIP. Looks like they didn't make it very far due to good reason. It looks like shit, any knuckle dragger would probably break that stock on the first TIC it sees, and Marines + keymod = no go.

Initial PIP was just an A4 with a caged barrel and collapsible stock, the subsequent and more promising PIP was with a sturdier collapsing stock (not of the type thought of or called an A5), a 16" mid-lengthened, Non-FSB caged barrel, compensator, two staged trigger and suppressor.

Yes - I did pull it from the weapons rack. :) Though they are correct as I should have taken the few seconds to return the carry handle to it's proper position before snapping that photo.

When I finish building it's final resting place (cage assembly in the gun room), I'll put up some proper pics :D

Lol you ever partied with Marines? If you do just don't fall asleep first, and especially with your shoes on. You'll wake up with sharpie dicks all over you. Marines love drawing dicks.

I found some photochops of my concept for an "A4FSP" that I would still someday like to build. Two are chops from the net, the other chop is a pic of an FNA2 rifle I used to have. I was thinking about this long before HSP Dropwing mounts came out, so I guess the concept is kind of pointless, but it sure looks bad as shit, I think.

Dig it:

With that setup, the ability to use a bayonet would be lost.
Link Posted: 1/15/2015 6:54:59 AM EDT
[#41]
Assuming you use a DD LITE 14.0, the hardest part to cut would be milling out the holes to drive the FSB pins in. Dimensionally though, you could remove more material up front and create enough space to allow use of the bayonet lug.

At that point, you're really just getting the benefit out of the R and L rails on either side of the FSB. Again, the point of which is rendered unnecessary with mounts such as the Dropwing.

Though not completely related - I have an Insight (IIRC, from an AN/PEQ-2A, though I can't really remember how I came across it ) that's got what feels like a full yard of wire, though I'm sure if I ever measured it, it would probably come out to be no more than 18" or so...
