The carbon slide was unfinished. It would need some kind of coating or treatment to be corrosion resistant.

Is it literally bare metal from forging that just happens to be a lighter shade? Can you tell us if the slides and frames were forged in the US? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

What are you guys using for ejectors? any have a nice fit out of the box? not afraid to fit it, but if one fits better than others, Id like to start there. Do the Remingtons with the pre notched pin fit nice and snug? Again, i will notch it, but if they are fitting well for most all with these frames, seems like a good bet it will fit mine. Thanks!

View Quote I used the Remington ejector from cdnnsports because it was notched for the pin. I also used a drop of locktite on the legs for strength. I ejector fit tightly and the retaining pin and ejector notch aligned correctly. My only problem was seating the retaining pin flush with the frame. I did not have the correct sized drift punch and the smaller drift would skip off of the pin when hit with enough force to move the pin. I was able to seat the pin to less than 1/8 inch and I filed it flush with the frame. I doubt that I would have had any problems if I had a drift punch that was the same size as the frame channel. Using a roll pin starter, I was able to start the retention pin easily. |

Yeah, the Remington ejectors on CDNN seem to work great. I used one on my in-progress stainless build, and the notch lined up perfectly. The only issue I noticed is that the ejector's rear sits about 1/16' ahead of the back of the slide. Not a bother for me, and I didn't think it necessary to blend the slide to the ejector since the slide is flush with the frame.
In fact, I've used the Remington ejector, extractor, barrel bushing, grip safety, thumb safety, hammer strut, trigger, firing pin stop, and mag catch, and they all fit very well with only a tiny amount of fitting here and there. They all seem to be decent parts, and the prices are unbeatable. |

I haven't blended the slide yet because I haven't decided if I want to finish the whole thing in cerakote or duracoat or something similar. Doesn't affect how it shoots. |

What did you use for your Recoil spring guide? I am debating whether I should go full length or short. Being my first 1911, and first build, I am not convinced either way. What do you guys suggest?

View Quote I used a Wilson standard length recoil spring guide in stainless, in keeping with the stainless theme. I prefer the standard recoil spring guide. I have had several problems using the full length guides. I have not found any value in the full length guides and they make it more difficult to assemble / disassemble the pistol. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/215285/wilson-combat-1-piece-bullet-proof-recoil-spring-guide-rod-1911-government-stainless-steel |

A couple of things I have run into.
Disconnector is sticking for some reason until i put pressure on the trigger. I have smoothed everything out with a polish to a nice mirror like finish, still happens. Any advice? Plunger detents are hanging up the thumb safety and slide lock. They work perfectly when the detents are not in place. Smooth motion with a tactile click on the thumb saftey when it engages. On empty mag, the slide lock fully engages, but when detents are in, it barley functions. Is there a good way to finish these area off to keep smooth action? |

Try adjusting Main Spring. see how that affects disconnector. Also plunger spring may be a tad too long. Try cutting a few coils off. Its a cheap fix if you ruin it.

Here is an update to my build, finished it sometime back and just got to the range tonight, only had time to put 50 rounds but I hit the bullseye on each first two shots and then pulled a little here and there. It shot very well, only one FTF and I think that may be Mr Mr forgot to oil it before shooting?
so I broke it down and cleaned it up when I got home, everything looks ok, but only 50 rounds, so I will get some time next week and put a couple hundred through it and see what happens. Thanks to everyone that helped me out, I have not been in this thread in a while, I hope PSA puts the frames and rails back up for sale, I see they are sold out. |

Thanks. I changed the mainspring and the problem seems to have disappeared. I will take a few coils off the plunger and see if it helps. thanks for the hints!

I'm using the PSA carbon slide and the OD of the bushing will need to be turned down a little to fit but I expected that. |

Small particles of steel from other items that were previously blasted stay in the blast media and when used on stainless, aluminum, or any softer metal they will imbed into the metal and eventually rust and cause the issue you are seeing. The best method to blast stainless is to thoroughly clean the cabinet of all old media and contaminants and use fresh media. |

I didn't. It is exactly as it was when I picked it up. I did head over to PSA though and show them and their response was.."you have to put either a clear coat or some type of finish on the slide or it will rust like that"...I was a bit surprised as I thought the SS finish was a long term finish, but I was wrong. I picked up some Blue and Rust remover, and it took the rust right off. I then covered it in frog lube.
