I have as well as my kids when they were younger.  And not just a joy ride, but to go get lunch.

I had one in '78. We had a cabin in the Maine woods and unlimited logging roads to explore. I used to leave camp in the morning after breakfast on my Trail 70 and only came back for more fuel, I'd stay out until it was starting to get dark (headlight didn't work). My parents only had a general idea of what grid square I was in.

We have one too. It's been pretty much fully closed, except the Movie theater and a Von Maur store. All the other shops have been gone for years, used to have a Kohl's. Sears, Carson Pirie Scott, Penny's and all the other usual small shops you'd find in a mall.

I remember going to those as a kid.

Sweet! I just checked, and the closest one is still in operation! Haven’t been there in years, but the last time I went, it was still the same thing; open only in the warmer months.

Seemed to be all HS girls working Summer jobs, and yes, they were all on rollerskates or rollerblades (apparently, rollerskates have made a comeback with Zoomers. I guess rollerskates are trendy now, amongst a certain crowd, and rollerblades have fallen out of vogue. Don’t ask me why).

Me with my dad just before leaving for church in the mid-70s.

1. There's a Meijer where the house once stood.
2. Dad has been dead for 20 years.
3. Mom (who took the picture) is in dementia care.
4. Those clothes. That change is good. Let's hope that look never returns.

Wow… just checked, and apparently there are still a few operational drive-in movie places in MI.

Usually seasonal, but apparently one of them is already open, and currently showing the new Ghostbusters movie. Another thing I haven’t done since the 90s.

Wow.  Chicks were so awesome in the 70's.   I can still see each and everyone of them in my mind.  Great photo.

That is an awesome photo.  I can stare at it for a long while.   I think you were just a couple of years behind me.  We went to church every Sunday all dressed up.   Great photo and Dad looks cool!

Just before we got married, my wife went with friends to see Twister at a drive in theater. If you remember that movie, you'll know it would be fun to see at a drive in.

This thread really shakes me up. I miss the 90's, dearly. Hell, at this point, I'd even settle for 2000-2005. This whole culture is so off the rails...

Growing up ignoring the discomfort of polyester and corduroy, is part of what made Gen X tough.

Cringing at photos of what your mom dressed you in, when you were younger, made you tough enough to not become a snowflake.

Even though most folks were skinny back then, the bell bottoms made avoiding that, impossible.

*** remembers the burnt orange corduroy bell bottoms that mom thought would look good on me

When I was in the 4th grade I had a 3 piece green corduroy suit that I wore when I was the narrator for our school play

We didn't know any better back then.

I remember doing that on road trips.

I look back at spaces I used to fit into, and think, “How?”

I remember my mom showing me my first baby shoes, when I was a HS Senior. I held out my hand and said, “My thumb is longer than this. My foot fit in this?”. She laughed and said, “You didn’t come out this size, you know?”.

My brother had one, it was purple, with tassels on the ends of the handlebars. I thought the shifter was the coolest thing EVER. Mine was a regular old little red Raleigh that almost killed me when the brakes went out coming down a hill.
