It's great quality, the attachment hardware is tough and easy to use. It's easy to remove as well. I keep some empty space on it so I can add or subtract depending on what we are doing. I really like mine. My buddy has the Smittybilt fabric MOLLE cover and it's honestly just junk for what he is doing. It sags a lot and frayed within the first few months. It hasn't torn or busted though. It is functional but I think the GMT does it a lot better with the hard rack systems. I hope that helps. There was enough to get the front and rear differentials in my Tundra but I need a bit more tube to get the last breather. |

Picked up an A frame. I really wanted to build a teardrop but my kids are growing like weeds and this wound up being a good deal. Pretty pleased with it so far. For the real remote stuff we’ll just haul a tent and when I’m solo I’ve got the platform in the bed.

Originally Posted By 3one5: The A frame looks pretty slick. What does it weigh? View Quote Supposedly about 2400 empty. It’s a good compromise between nothing and a traditional 16ft trailer. The picture doesn’t do the ground clearance justice. The forward platform makes it stupid long however. It’ll make a solid base camp. |

My favorite "overlanding" rig for hunting when young wasn't so costly. Let's tally it up: 2" thick foam roll was in the bed of my truck. ($10, from the thrift store) Cheap Walmart sleeping bag on top of that ($5 @ thrift store)and the roof was 12x10 cammo tarp bungied over a frame of fiberglass tent poles (poles harvested from an old shitty tent...free). Coleman white gas stove, borrowed fom my dad. Old folding camp chair (free, i think...same with the Igloo) Add fuel and a stop by the grocery store and i might be out for $50. The "MWAS" (Mobile Wilderness Access System) Was my used $4500 Nissan work truck/daily driver. . It was 2WD, but sported Buckshot mudgrips for Fall/Winter. My Dad's MWAS in his day was 69 Ford station wagon. He did not even bother with mudgrip tires, but he was a more expert "overlander" than i was. Wish i had video of him crossing creeks in that damn thing. |

I wonder if they work with SS alloy guns like Glocks? That is a good question. Unfortunately I don't have a stainless gun to try it. I do know it works on my ar, The magnet is strong. The magnet is still attracted to the barrel even through the handguard. Though it is not strong enough to trust it to hold it tight on the road. |

Hey folks. I am a chronic "active topics" refresh guy so I never see the topics that aren't moving as much. Stumbled on this one.
I used to overland when I was in high school and college in the Ouachitas of Arkansas. The Albert Pike area that flooded many years ago was in my back yard. Back then I had a Chevy farm truck (1500, I think) and we would load it up with Walmart camping gear and camp. Had one spot just off the road where you had to cross a small creek and we would set up there with a river on the other side. Anyways, after deciding I was gonna kill myself with a fast car, I jumped on a GX460. It's a Lexus, which I'm not thrilled about, but whatever. I do more on road driving than off.
