Watching that video of the officer shooting himself reminds me of a true saying:

The two loudest sounds in the world are a click when you thought you'd hear a BANG, and a BANG when you thought you'd hear a click.

ALWAYS follow those 4 rules.

I had a similar encounter last summer at a lgs on the outskirts of Atlanta--

Walked in, and was standing at the end of the gun counter, and then..... BOOOOOOM!!!!

It was a bit disorienting, so it took a full two seconds or so to notice that one of the employees behind the counter had a AR SBR in his hands, still pointed in my general direction, and his eyes were as big as saucers.

Found the bullet hole right above my head.

The manager came out, and asked me "How much to buy your silence?", while another employee grabs me by the shoulders and proclaims "GOD IS WITH YOU!!!".

I just turned around and left.  Dunno if they fired the moron who was playing with a loaded rifle, but I suspect not.

My ears are still ringing from the experience.  A permanent gift they gave me.

And?

How much did you charge them for your silence?

Mine would not have come cheaply.

I like how my LGS will direct customers where to point the guns to see the sights and test the trigger. Always in a safe direction.

I've been in many gun stores where muzzle sweeping the clientele to "feel out" a gun is a normal and regular activity.

Fuck that shit.

You are missing the point.  It was a shop employee that did it, on purpose apparently.  That is the whole point and nothing else.

And yea shop employees should remind all customers to point only in a safe direction.  So no, being busy isn't really an excuse for responsibility.

Never happened to me in a gun store, but i did spy a teenager draw a bead on my young family across the church parking lot as i escorted them from the car for an evening service, years ago.

I am a very peaceful sort, to a point.  I could not tell which of the four in the group it was, but i beelined to them as soon as i gotthe girls inside.  Tunnel vision mad.  All the prayers in that church could not have washed away the verbal sin i let loose.

Don't know what I'd do getting aimed at in a store.

I think I'd keep cocking and pulling the trigger as I walked towards him until I had it in his fucking face. Like this

Me: Hey shitbird, got his attention
Step/cock /point/click
Me: Hey shit bird,  is it still funny?
Step/cock/point/click
Me: Aren't you glad it's not loaded?
Step/cock/point/click
Until I had it in his face.....unless I was tackled by that point.

Seriously though, how many people carry into a gun store? How do your know it's a gun from the store or a customer? That's why there's one fucking rule to cover every scenario. And anybody that thinks it's ok just because you're used to it best be prepared to have it shoved up your ass some day.

Fair...however the point is simply, don't point weapons at people.
Also...is it not universal to check the weapons chamber when receiving it from someone.

Several years ago, I was walking down an aisle at a gun show, heard some idiot making machinegun noises, and looked toward the sound to see a rifle pointed at my head.  Doofus was demonstrating how to fire the rifle with the stock folded, as part of his sales pitch to a customer.

It was the tables with guns that smelled faintly of smoke, from the gun store in Smyrna (the locals will know which store, from that description).

Bought my first handgun from that store, something like 30 years ago.  At that moment, I decided I would never again set foot in that store (if they rebuilt it after the fire).

This right here, owner doesn't give a shit.  You would have been better served to gone off on the idiot.  Start yelling at him, "WTF are you doing pointing a gun at me?  Have you never taken any firearms safety courses?  How can you work in a gunshop and not no the basic rules of firearms safety?"

This would have embarrassed the employee and most likely attracted a lot of attention to him and maybe brought out the owner.

Being shown the rifle by someone who should give a fuck if he proceeds to muzzle sweep everyone in the vicinity with it, but didn't stop him.

Smells like testosterone and bullshit up in here tonight with all the chest thumping, ass kickings that would be dished out or better yet, the draw downs and so called justified self defense shootings that would occure if it happened to the tough guys on here. hahaha

I've been muzzle swept before in gun shops and I've always been polite and brought it to their attention saying something to the effect of, "You should always be careful where you point the muzzle, safety first." People would smile and apologize because many check the chamber and then get careless with the muzzle since they know it's empty and others don't check but make the rookie mistake of assuming it's empty because it's a new gun.

People make mistakes, especially people unlike many on this board because not everyone is a gun nut like we are. I wouldn't have been pissed, I'd have just mentioned to the guy about being safe even with an unloaded firearm. I wouldn't have verbally abused him, kicked his ass or tried to get him fired. People make mistakes and yes at times it could be a deadly mistake but 99.9% of the time, the mistake is made with an empty gun.

It's easier to be polite and educate people than to be an asshole because people never listen to a screaming asshole.
