I have to disagree with the OPs premise based solely on the "most tested" claim. The 1911 had 70 years of heavy military testing and use, including two word wars before the 17 even came on to the scene. Both platforms are very reliable and proven when properly maintained so that part is true though.

I have both.. ( among others )     I too can shoot my CZ quite a bit better.       However for the purpose of this thread,   I have shot the everloving shit out of both of them,  several thousands of rounds out of both over the last 4 or 5 years from reloaded plinking ammo to +p loads,  and both guns have been extremely reliable. I have no issues carrying either with 100% confidence.

ETA: that being said, my wife's springfield loaded hasn't malfunctioned yet, but my G17 is lighter, has a higher capacity, and isn't shiny.
