And if this movie is anything like the book - it is NOT like the "other 19 times" it has been made.... View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Mars is seriously the most boring of planets. Do something new, like Venus or Mercury even. Sheez. Meh, whatever. I've seen this movie the 19 other times it's been made over the past twenty or so years. Pick a new sci fi backdrop. If you are concerned about the back drop, than you are missing the point of sci fi Ok, I'll add it to my thirty-deep queue on Vudu concerning Mars rescue mission movies and watch it eventually. |

Grabbed the book and read it today thanks to this thread. Pretty good. |

I look forward to watching this movie, but am I wrong in thinking Matt Damon is acting the role of Jebediah Kerman?

Book was phenomenal. I didn't picture Matt Damon as the dude but hey Jessica Chastain. I was hoping for Benedict Cumberbatch. Or Owen Wilson. Lol. Honestly I think Brad Pitt would do good. |

I read this thread last night and spent $5.99 to put it on my kindle.
It's 24 hours later and I haven't had a chance to start reading it yet. I'm going to log off and read some of it before bed. |

I wish we could send Matt Damon to Mars and leave him there. Then Clooney and Affleck could dress up like Batmen and attempt a rescue, only to be stranded on Mars as well. Then Darth Vader shows up with the new Death Star and blows up Mars. I would pay to see that in IMAX 3D. View Quote |

I loved the book. I couldn't put it down. Main character was sarcastic and cracking jokes despite his dire situation. After I finished the book, I thought it would be a good movie. I was hoping it would be an independent film, kinda like Moon, more about the story, not so much about CGI crap.
The trailer seems like it will be good. I will see it, only because I loved the book so much. |
|
Looks like it could be a good movie. I've only heard good things about the book. I mentioned I was watching the trailer a few minutes ago and one of my coworkers mentioned that he loved the book.
I'll probably go see it even though it's got Matt Damon in it. |

MATT DAMON! ....... I would have left that communist shit there on purpose.

Finished reading the book this morning. Note: I hear there are PDF copies of it floating around online (since it was originally released on the author's website chapter by chapter before "real" publishing). Are there aliens?
Needs to be some damn aliens in this effin movie. Watching a Mars farmer who's awaiting on Matthew Mcconaughey seems dull. |

In the book it was completely smashed so he cut the lower arm off his suit and glued it to the helmet then glued the arm shut. He used a camera on the arm to navigate. The image projected inside the helmet. Not very plausible and definitely wouldn't translate to the screen very well. In the movie it appears the mask only cracks and he tapes it to not break further. |

Absolutely fantastic book.
From what I can see, I expect the movie will be quite entertaining. In no way do I expect it to be as good as the book - generally, movies never do manage to be as good as books. Especially for books like this, that are 95% first person. I learned long ago to not expect movies to live up to the books they are based on, and I'm a happier movie watcher for learning that. |

Basically that trailer was a Cliff Notes version. Now why would I go see the movie???

I grabbed the PDF version of the book, and tossed on my web site for easy access.

Stopped reading the book at 8% on kindle, because the entire section on producing water from various gases and liquids was full of fail.

I loved the book. My heart sank a little when I saw Matt Damon playing Mark Watney. I hope he doesn't try to turn this into a libtard fest somehow...

You pretty much have to put politics out of your mind to enjoy anything on the big screen. Deciding not to watch movies with idiot liberal casts means you decided not to watch movies. Same with music. |

We got this trailer in Jurassic World last night.
DO. WANT. I love space movies. |
