Mars is seriously the most boring of planets.  Do something new, like Venus or Mercury even.  Sheez.

Meh, whatever.  I've seen this movie the 19 other times it's been made over the past twenty or so years.

Pick a new sci fi backdrop.

If you are concerned about the back drop, than you are missing the point of sci fi

Ok, I'll add it to my thirty-deep queue on Vudu concerning Mars rescue mission movies and watch it eventually.

I look forward to watching this movie, but am I wrong in thinking Matt Damon is acting the role of Jebediah Kerman?

I read this thread last night and spent $5.99 to put it on my kindle.

It's 24 hours later and I haven't had a chance to start reading it yet.

I'm going to log off and read some of it before bed.

I wish we could send Matt Damon to Mars and leave him there.

Then Clooney and Affleck could dress up like Batmen and attempt a rescue, only to be stranded on Mars as well.

Then Darth Vader shows up with the new Death Star and blows up Mars.

I would pay to see that in IMAX 3D.

Can someone post a link to a free pdf download?

If the book was first put into the public domain by the author (as stated at beginning of this thread), there's no restriction on re-distributing the material.

Every web site I found wants something from me and are not free - be it an email address or other form of "registration".

I loved the book. I couldn't put it down. Main character was sarcastic and cracking jokes despite his dire situation. After I finished the book, I thought it would be a good movie. I was hoping it would be an independent film, kinda like Moon, more about the story, not so much about CGI crap.

The trailer seems like it will be good. I will see it, only because I loved the book so much.

Looks like it could be a good movie. I've only heard good things about the book. I mentioned I was watching the trailer a few minutes ago and one of my coworkers mentioned that he loved the book.

I'll probably go see it even though it's got Matt Damon in it.

Needs to be some damn aliens in this effin movie.

Watching a Mars farmer who's awaiting on Matthew Mcconaughey seems dull.

Absolutely fantastic book.

From what I can see, I expect the movie will be quite entertaining.  In no way do I expect it to be as good as the book - generally, movies never do manage to be as good as books.  Especially for books like this, that are 95% first person.

I learned long ago to not expect movies to live up to the books they are based on, and I'm a happier movie watcher for learning that.

Jeff Daniels, major anti-gun, anti-American liberal..check

And for these reasons, I'm out.

I already saw Mission to Mars, which was pretty hard to beat.  Again, Hollywood lost the ability to be creative with a plot.

I've done both and enjoyed both. The book may (in my view) convey a bit more since there are some things in a book, not necessarily this book, that sometimes simply don't translate well when spoken in audiobook format.

You pretty much have to put politics out of your mind to enjoy anything on the big screen. Deciding not to watch movies with idiot liberal casts means you decided not to watch movies. Same with music.

Maybe have him start recording his log entries then as he's explaining everything they show him completing the tasks as he's doing the voice over while recording his log entry. That sounds really dumb and confusing but that's what I got. I didn't have coffee this morning.
